If its the Zeiss Dialyt "rubberised" rainguard they do deteriorate over time (admitted by Zeiss) and if wiped,/cleaned do stain. Ive had quite a few over the years.

Always been partial to a sum plum Grey Plover, this one on Filey Brigg today.

Change it Amy, after a few years they deteriorate and become sticky and will stain clothing.

Yes, I still use the zeiss dialyt rainguard on my 8x32 swaros, dont need to do anything, drops back when lifting bins and back on when lowered.

LesserYlegs and GW Teal at Filey Dams today. Ive seen mistakes made with Ylegs before so we (Tony Houseman & Nick Robinson) were extra cautious b4 putting news out. Bright sunlight and distance made the legs look very orangy (had to wait an age to confirm it lacked a wingbar)
