If Johnson wants to innovate & exclude field events that’s up to him. I’m not convinced GST will be anything special, but Johnson’s track record suggests when he puts his mind to something it tends to be a success. My objection is to his narrative that athletics needs to be ‘saved’. It doesn’t.

I mean credit to him for honesty I suppose, but also pretty terrifying!

Would be nice if the sport’s governing body could challenge lazy stereotypes that long distance running and throwing events are dull rather than pandering to them. Hope I’m wrong but these championships sadly seem more about marketing than sporting competition.

I like Johnson a lot but the idea that a sport that is filled with superstars, has just had two hugely successful championships in two years & can fill stadia of 50,000+ needs ‘saving’ is either laughable or insulting
