Decision desk, HQ has called the Democratic primary and congressional district 7 Rep. Aftyn Behn. Behn spent less money than any of the three other candidates.

They also said the specific eligibility requirements are still being decided but eligible folks will be able to ride WeGo for free, including WeGo Access but not WeGo Access on-demand
johnwesssley.bsky.social
At the WeGo board meeting a couple weeks ago they did not share a lot of specifics. I may have missed an update since. It sounds like the logic is to test out a lot of kinks in the soft launch phase which will exclusively be with partners that can independently verify eligibility (ie MDHA)

REMATCH! Bus with a dedicated lane beats walking!

We try and advise 🤷‍♂️

There are lots of options. The bottom line is the light makes it less safe
johnwesssley.bsky.social
It’s a LOSing philosophy
johnwesssley.bsky.social
If NDOT isn’t adaptable enough to say, “look, there was a fatality here. Let’s revisit our plans for this street before we building anything new,” then what even is the point of Vision Zero?
johnwesssley.bsky.social
We can put in a flashing beacon and pat ourselves on the back, but if we’re serious about saving lives, we have to actually put safety FIRST. Here, a fellow Nashvillian was killed trying to cross the street and we actively made it less safe
johnwesssley.bsky.social
What’s especially sad about this case is that NDOT is neither proactive OR reactive here. We have dozens of intersections that need more attention than this. I can understand 3rd not being addressed before Dot Dobbins’ crash. I’m more concerned that a fatality did not give NDOT pause
johnwesssley.bsky.social
While the crossing was dangerous before, the light makes it worse. It makes the character of street more hostile and makes drivers feel like this is a “through” street, signaling they don’t need to pay attention to people outside of cars.
johnwesssley.bsky.social
Traffic counts were used to rationalize the signal and we were even told it would “slow drivers down”. Ofc, that’s not true. When drivers have a green light instead of a 4-way stop, they will drive faster inherently. The dangerous crossing is just feet from the new signal.
johnwesssley.bsky.social
Shortly after Dot Dobbins was killed crossing 3rd Ave, a traffic signal was installed at Van Buren and 3rd. The Vision Zero committee expressed concerns when this was presented during the fatal crash review in July, but it was installed anyway.

Since, another pedestrian has been hit here

Agreed. In case this is a WBN subtweet, we work with Open Table, Oasis, and other non-profit partners that provide bus passes to those that rely on it. We would be making far less of a stink if WeGo’s expanded free/reduced fare program was up and running but it’s not and they keep pushing deadlines
johnwesssley.bsky.social
Statement from WeGo does not dispute any info about the flaws in this process.

There’s also a more fundamental issue here. When ridership and profitability are at odds for a public transit agency, they should choose ridership. I care about fairness too. So, let’s give more people a good deal.
johnwesssley.bsky.social
TL:DR- WeGo is doubling Walk Bike's QuickTicket rate and gave three weeks notice to come up with $20,000 in additional renewal fees. This program should be celebrated and replicated but instead, we're having to pause it. The WeGo Ride program can be great but the current structure is not sustainable
walkbikenashville.bsky.social
We’re putting a pause on new Walk Bike Bus Passes, as well as renewals, due to an unexpected rate hike from WeGo Transit. Active passes will continue to function through their renewal dates, but we are unable to activate or renew passes.

@nashvilledot.bsky.social did y’all get an inspector out there today? This is unacceptable especially without a lane closure permit

This morning, officers blocking the Commerce Bike Lane told me they hoped I got hit by a car and threatened to "punch my teeth out" if I didn't move along.

Update: there's literally nothing there at all. No racks, no corral, no sign, nothing. I arrived about 8:45 am.

FYI. It should also be noted that WBN is not doing bike concierge at Tomato Fest either.

Our 5 Points station has been closed for the duration of the Tomato Art Fest. Bicycles are prohibited from the event footprint, rendering the station inaccessible for both riders and our operations team. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope for improved BCycle access at next year’s event.
johnwesssley.bsky.social
I’m not sure. Hopefully it’s something you can lock to or they’re doing their own bike valet. Sharing all the info I got from the organizers

Tomato Fest Bike Parking Info:
- Bike 🅿️ at Russell & 12th (not WBN valet, bring a lock)
- Bikes prohibited on event footprint
- No access to Five Points BCycle station
