The best summary that I have seen about this was about ten years ago from a blogger calling herself "Autistic Abby". I don't know if she originated it, but she's 100% correct. It's why small men crave authority, because they think it will make others respect them when they have earned none.

tangential question: is a type changing from ?Sized to Sized a breaking change in terms of SemVer?

are we already at the "LLMs don't kill people, people kill people" phase of this technology? yikes

there's an entire YouTube series devoted to taking broking Kubernetes clusters and fixing them: youtube.com/playlist?lis...

after playing with kubernetes for a while, i've been toying with the idea of something that takes kubernetes "reboot every pod until ok" concept and uses that to solve concurrency and sequencing in an ansible replacement

e.g. "retry a task until it succeeds" + "run all tasks all at once"

not sure what the problem is, that's the latest version of Java, right? :P

for our honeymoon, we stayed at a golf resort in New Zealand

when we checked in and arrived in our room, we discovered that they had setup a bread machine to complete just before we got there

the smell of freshly-baked bread is such a delicious and delightful surprise!

I'd love for the huge list of AWS services to include how much of AWS itself would be broken if that service went away, and profit per AWS service would be nice, too

outside of maybe a dozen fundamental services, it's really hard to know what is actually worthy of adoption

it would be so evolved and healthy to not have a smartphone, haha :)

do you mean you don't have a smartphone? or do you mean instead of a laptop or other tablet?

yeah, there's a loss of fidelity

engineering is about transforming a problem you don't want into a different problem, hopefully one you can live with

haha

i've cobbled together my own background process that listens to see desktop session light/dark events, but it's not pretty, haha: gitlab.com/jokeyrhyme/d...

it does cover macOS and Linux

in helix, the "base16_terminal" theme sort of inherits the colour palette from your terminal emulator/muxer

in zellij, the "ansi" theme does the same thing

so as long as the outer most terminal emulator (a GUI app) reacts to desktop session events, helix and zellij will automatically match

makes me wonder what amazing relics will be on display in museums from the "cloud era" ...

it's been suggested to me to learn about democratic confederalism ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democra... ) and it does indeed seem to align with my values and aspirations in ways that democratic socialism does not

if the Statue of Liberty were made of gold (or more appropriately, pyrite) then this would be on his list

i agree that there's utility/value here, but i've not yet seen anything that justifies the billions of dollars that humanity has poured into generative-AI

imagine if we spent it on education and healthcare

imagine if we didn't allow a handful of pale+male+stale folks to unilaterally decide this
