In the same breath:
-Major American cities are under siege and have been "destroyed."
-I'm not really following what's going on.

Wouldn't you, though? If cities were burning to the ground.... wouldn't you be following it?

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

If you'd like to delight in a side-by-side comparison, here's Bari Weiss' reported note to CBS staffers (left) and the one I cooked up on ChatGPT with a quickly dashed-off prompt (right). Looking forward to hearing from you in the days and weeks ahead!

-“Conservatives are generally grateful people, not motivated by resentment.”

(Actually, the entire MAGA movement is almost exclusively motivated by resentment)

-“uhhh, yeah, so…. if they are resentful, something really bad must have happened. Since, since they aren’t usually like that, y’know?”

"[A]gents engulfed my car in tear gas, smashed my driver-side window, and pepper-sprayed my face.... I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. No explanation. No charges. No apology. One day, I was just told, 'you’re free to go.'" #KavanaughStop
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

In that book there’s a passing reference to bin Laden as someone we let get away, or something. He certainly didn’t warn the intelligence community about him, as bin Laden was of course already well known.
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
I’m not saying he hasn’t lost it, but this is a “normal” Trump thing he has said before, that he wrote in a book a year before 9/11 that Bin Laden was going to attack the U.S., and then he’s recounting telling Pete Hegseth about that book.

Trump: "Please remember I wrote Osama bin Laden exactly one year ago, one year before he blew up the World Trade Center. And I said, 'You gotta watch Osama bin Laden!' ... I gotta take a little credit."

I always hate making it a “refs” thing, but what did I miss?

-Took away Dotson catch
-Picked up intentional grounding flag
-Illegal shift or something?
-Baun unnecessary roughness
-Missed DPI on Dallas Goedert on final drive

Does anyone really believe Trump is giving these orders?
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
When Trump shows his face again, he should be asked about this immediately. My guess is he has no idea this is going on.

NEW: Gavin Newsom says that Trump has ordered 300 previously federalized CA National Guard troops into Oregon to end-run Judge Immergut's ruling blocking the federalization of the Oregon National Guard. www.gov.ca.gov/2025/10/05/g...
In response to a federal court order that blocked his attempt to federalize the Oregon National Guard, President Trump is deploying 300 California National Guard personnel into Oregon. They are on their way there now. This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power. The Trump Administration is unapologetically attacking the rule of law itself and putting into action their dangerous words — ignoring court orders and treating judges, even those appointed by the President himself, as political opponents.
This isn't about public safety, it's about power. The commander-in-chief is using the U.S. military as a political weapon against American citizens. We will take this fight to court, but the public cannot stay silent in the face of such reckless and authoritarian conduct by the President of the United States.
Governor Gavin Newsom

*overemphasized. It’s bad is what I’m saying.
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
Can’t be underemphasized that one of the president’s advisors has his own force of lawless thugs, which he probably wouldn’t hesitate to deploy on his own side if it would help his own malicious, sadistic goals.

You’d think some on the right would push for Miller’s ouster, since his terrorizing of families is unpopular, and since he seems to often be acting independently of his maybe-still-conscious boss. Might legitimately help Trump et al to get rid of this freak, but they’re afraid of his secret police.
whstancil.bsky.social
Miller’s apparent elevation to shadow president and his seeming intent to declare an end to the constitutional order would, in any other administration, be treated as a executive branch meltdown that was immensely embarrassing for the president and requiring Miller’s immediate removal

Brett Kavanaugh in four months: “Looking at plaintiffs’ requests for relief from so-called Deportation Over Tweets, the Court must ask itself: what is an ‘amendment’ really, and if it was so important would the founders have really made it the ‘first’?”
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
I wonder if Kavanaugh saw the report about the Chicago apartment and thought “yeah… so what’s the problem?”

Anyway, the president is pushing gang violence into American cities and all these people need to go to prison.
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
They are malicious and they are doing this anyway… but I would chalk this statement up to ignorance. Nobody has explained to DHS the legal difference between “reasonable suspicion” and “probable cause.”
davidjbier.bsky.social
Holy hell. DHS just openly stated that its agents use “reasonable suspicion” to make ARRESTS. This is blatantly unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is clear that you need probable cause to arrest someone, as opposed to stop them to ask them a question or two. This is huge b/c…

Hilarious time to announce that the editor of this thing is taking over CBS News.
The Free Press (@TheFP) on Twitter: Tilly Norwood doesn’t need a hairstylist, has no regrettable tweets, and if you wish to see a virgin on-screen, this is one of your better chances. That’s because she’s AI, writes Tyler Cowen.

Superheroes shouldn’t have little nicknames for their nemeses. Calling Green Goblin “Gobby” only emboldens him.
jonathan-a-thon.bsky.social
Have there been any statements about this from prominent Democrats? About the president telling the military he wants them to shoot "the enemy from within"?

Bombing my big stand-up special in front of a totally silent room of generals. "What else, what else. Bagram Air Force Base, we're going to do that again, okay? And we're going to do it the right way: through specific types of tattoos, and haircuts."

Hopefully the media doesn’t pretend that the Secretary of Defense is allowed to declaratively make war crimes legal.

Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."
