Delighted to share the announcement stage with @malkydel.bsky.social and @mikevincent-author.bsky.social.

Khemet's story was a fascinating one to write, and follows some truly exceptional Necron books in recent years. Looking forward to it coming out!

Trump's $100,000 skilled worker visa fee gives Britain a golden opportunity to attracted global talent. Needless to say, we're going to piss it away because we're scared of upsetting Nigel Farage.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

In a woodcut released today the Guild of Thieves and Cutpurses declared that enforcement of regulations against Thieving and Pursecutting would ‘devastate a growth industry’ and damage the economy.

As for this - in other words the government would rather we offshore our operations instead of generating jobs and exports in a high productivity sector in the UK. I despair...

There are indeed many other board games, of war and other things, to occupy myself with :)

Wow, that takes me back. I remember begged my dad to play that, then spending three hours setting the game up, and then being baffled by what I was meant to be doing.

Might have to try to buy a copy now and see if it's more comprehensible as an adult.

I have thoroughly internalised this method, which isn't helpful when a big part of my day job is to write reports and process notes that naturally seem to slide into the passive voice.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Audible is currently changing the way their royalty model works, and it's looking like BAD news for authors. Please consider checking out the petition to stop them screwing us all over.

The official database of works eligible for the Anthropic AI settlement has been released and, as I suspected, many authors are screwed. Basically, if your books weren't officially registered with the US Copyright Office you're out of luck. 1/ secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/results

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

Reform say it is "disgusting and libellous" to suggest that Nigel Farage flirted with Hitler Youth when he was young.

Here's how a former teacher at his school remembers it

⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

This, a thousand times this.
On a day when I read that a new poll suggests Nigel fucking Farage is on course to be the next PM, the Labour Party *desperately* needs to find some spine. Kick out Starmer and McSweeney, and actually challenge the racist narratives of Reform and its media allies.

Also also, my enormous thanks to Gabrielle Nellis-Pain - I've just had a listen to the audio excerpt on the Black Library website, and her performance is clearly going to elevate the book far beyond the text. She was the narrator for KING OF THE SPOIL and did wonders with it. Many thanks Gabrielle!

That's why ramping up the anti-migration rhetoric was so disastrous for the Government. All they did was raise the salience of their opponents' argument while doing nothing to solve the root issue. Especially when combined with actually *cutting* benefits and support for people in deprivation

The homogenisation and consolidation of buisinesses and brands has led to the erosion of the midlist, the indie movie or band or comic. There's a real sense of "I'll only try media that's already popular / famous," and I'm begging you to look for the weird shit, the experimental, the niche.
