As a person who doesn’t know you at all, take it with a grain of salt, but if I were you instead of replying to strangers about pro-Palestine protests, I’d try to build relationships with people organizing those actions in Broadview and maybe figure out if they have reasons for what they’re doing.

Please do organize against ICE. But at least in many places in 2025, your comrades are going to be people that also have organized for Palestine. It’s not necessary to see these movements in opposition to each other, and doing so is not unrelated to how we got here.

Actually, it really matters whether your electeds are progressive. We are often frustrated on the left at what electeds can deliver, but we have to remember moments like this. Paul Vallas would NOT have created ICE free zones.

I support nonviolent action. It's literally what I do. But telling people that allowing themselves to be harmed to demonstrate the character of their enemy will be politically transformative denies the desensitized reality of the present.

I think most religious traditions have within them the seeds of empire and of resistance to empire. One of the ways I look for who to emulate is what a person or part of that tradition does when the empire seeds are being cultivated.

I still think there is a tendency on this website to treat the most innocuous protests as if they are identical to the Catonsville Nine or whatever equivalent, and I just think sometimes that is demobilizing for people without deep security skill (which is most people! security is complicated!)

and I think it matters because otherwise people will talk about whether or not she's qualified or in over her head or whatever, and I think the more important question is what is it that she is qualified to do that people who would appoint her want done?
