"Tariffs will make US manufacturing thrive," they say. Let's see what the US aerospace industry says: "Aerospace giant RTX said it expects a $850 million [increase in production costs] from tariffs, while GE estimated about $500 million." 🤔

I’m guessing there is an AI footprint challenge to this as well, with tech evolution needed to enable in situ calculations that don’t tank your phone performance and battery life.

PLEASE BE AWARE: when creating a new account make sure you don’t re-use an email you have used with any other Bluesky account yet. The signup will bail atm if you do that. Already pushing a fix with an error dialog for this.

More active carbon capture solutions are needed to mitigate climate change.

We brought in extraordinary people into the DOE. For folks to just cut people on probation (less than a year at DOE) means that many talented folks that are experts in their field won’t be available for the important work of electricity abundance or in a crisis. Reach out to them if you are hiring!
Mass layoffs bring an end to DOE's 'weird, quiet limbo'
The Trump transition has brought DOGE inside the agency offices, and put 20-somethings in charge of screening all department communications.

US craft beers — brewed in steel, canned in aluminum — could get crushed by tariffs | CNN Business
Craft breweries offer more than local beer. They provide a “third place” for community members and are oftentimes helmed by the very neighbor who handcrafted those brews.

1) Interesting approach to flattening the so-called “duck curve” of power usage through data center curtailment at peak power usage times, bringing new data centers online faster.

1/ 🚨New study alert!🚨 🔌💡
My DukeU colleagues and I just released a 1st-of-kind study on how the US grid could integrate up to 100 gigawatts of data centers w/out major new infrastructure, provided modest load flexibility (0.5%/yr). AI load growth can be managed faster, cheaper, & cleaner. 🧵👇

Throwback to my son’s first visit to a comic book store, Empire Comics in Buffalo, NY. They gifted him his first comic - Sonic! Does anyone have recommendations on how to source a small lot of Sonic Comic Books?

Interesting trends in EU energy consumption. Electricity demand unsurprisingly up, hydro and nuclear base load production to support the solar growth. 🌞
How did the EU's electricity mix change in the last year?

☀️ Big growth in solar
☢️ 🌊 Rebound in nuclear & hydro
💨 Not so much growth in wind
🏭 Large drop in fossil fuels (both coal and gas)
🔌 Demand up
