This particular instance was during the 2010s tumblr phase of “fuck your validation !!!!” Which in retrospect I’m pretty sure does not mean that you don’t need to affirm your partner ever and if they say you should it’s because they are insecure and bad.

Anyway, makes me think about how a lot of people now co-opt misunderstood therapy terms to justify stances that actual therapists probably Would Not endorse.
