I suppose everyone knows that this is really just classist gatekeeping--mostly from people who themselves have humanities degrees that led to fun, remunerative jobs. Point is they want YOU to pay 30,000 quid for a degree in "prompt engineering" or whatev so that you can make their coffee

"English is a ripoff degree" is something that should mark you out as a complete nutter unless your point is that our current leadership is so incompetent that you'd be better served getting on with it and learning Chinese.

sociology and anthropology are dangerous to them, because those fields help us understand the power dynamics, ethics, and human cost of what the industries they like better are doing.
Performing arts is hugely important for the economy, but it doesn't benefit them directly.

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

and despite this, the current Federal Council (esp. SVP energy&transport minister Rösti) is pushing for expanding motorways, _against_ a popular vote on the issue last year... the car/anti-cyclist lobby sadly still strong, especially outside the larger cities...

@zackpolanski.bsky.social is asked about the Home Secretarys comments that yesterdays protests about Israels actions were dishonourable (she also said they were unBritish).

Zack is spot on.

Seeing a malapropism or a comma splice in a student paper has never felt so good.

In food history, we notice how super-refined foods--gelatin, vienna sausage, white bread--lose class and become horrifying once they become industrialized. Suddenly, fingermarks in bread dough demonstrate skill, not clumsiness.

Post-chatGPT, I'm feeling this about writing. Smoothness feels gross.

To add to this: Sadiq Khan took a big political risk by doing this, and it appears to have paid off - or rather, the policy has worked as intended.

London Labour will be (quite reasonably) hoping voters notice...

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

You are much more powerful than you think you are, and he is an extremely reckless man who is incapable of controlling his worst impulses. This means that there are loads of opportunities to fight back and ultimately defeat him and his ilk, and these opportunities will only increase.
