I used to select Dem primary candidates based on policy.

Now I will aggressively try to destroy any Dem who says "we need to look forward not backward" and fervently support anyone who says "I will see these motherfuckers prosecuted and jailed if it's the last thing I do."

D Frum (and the neocons like him) should not be blindly trusted. But this is mostly correct.
There are 2 economic ideas behind the Trump tariffs. One is obviously very stupid. The other is also very stupid, but less obviously so.

Green shoots?
The @democrats.org war room is a go.

It is being helmed by coms expert, Tim Hogan, and will be rapid response to everything the admin is doing in all areas of media from grassroots in person to conservative spaces.

This is a really big deal and we should be amplifying it as much as possible

Ok, Baltimore, time to find an indoor home for Mr. Rogers!

He's been living in our guest room and wandering around the house for two weeks now, and he's had all his shots and has been treated for parasites. He has immaculate manners, no spraying, and just wants lots of scritches and playtime.

Often-measured approach
Tariffs = Taxes, and Trump has just raised taxes by a lot. I get that many of you dislike our often-measured approach, but I think we were appropriately plain-spoken here, leading the home page right now.

Kilmar Abrego-Garcia.

If they can do it to him, they can do it to you.
People who are looking for a way to fight Trump, I have it for you in one name: Kilmar Abrego-Garcia.

He's the poor guy who got pulled off the street, declared a gang member for no reason, then sent off to that hell-hole in El Salvador.

Fight for him because this case will unravel everything. 🧵

With the first surpluses of money, humans bought their offspring education so they wouldn’t have to follow them to the mills and the mines and the plants. Now we have a wealthy but failed-at-everything President who sincerely believes every American wants a factory job.

Good summary if there was still a question in your mind about where we are and how we got here. We never actually cleaned the stables after 2008, so these piles of shit are still lying around.
Bankers and CEOs’ surprise and dismay over Trump’s massive tariffs appears genuine.

They really did believe in an Imaginary Reliable Trump, one who was tossing meat to the rubes but would do what a Wall St. CEO would do, and told each other this to the point it was socially-reinforced groupthink.
Tariffs Expose Wall Street's Misplaced Faith in Trump
Bankers and business leaders imagine a more reliable, less protectionist version of the president than the one that actually exists. Now they're finding out the hard way.

Seriously, I really want the pro-polling people to start digging up 2024 Dem election avoiders and find out what they’re thinking right now. Are they guilty? Blaming someone else? Feel like they made a mistake?

Thinking today about those stay-at-home Dem voters in 2024 and wondering what’s in their heads right now.

Note to younger retirement savers: huge market swings are really depressing when you’ve been saving for 2 or 5 or 10 years and now are watching what seems like a huge waste of effort. Take a breath. Don’t over-react. You have a lot of time left for mistakes to fix themselves.

We need civics education in the US, and this is the beginning, middle and end of the curriculum. Maybe spend a week on checks and balances.
The politicians don’t know more than you. This is hard for many to understand. We’ve been raised to believe they know more. They don’t know shit. I learned this during the Iraq war. The idea was they had to know more to vote for a seemingly dumb war.

They didn’t. Both parties. Fucking dumb.
I don’t disagree with you. I keep thinking I’m missing something and that these seasoned politicians know more than I do and will do what’s best… but I am confused and baffled.

This is the first time I’ve seen a dem say out loud that they lost because people stayed home. It’s obviously true, but not yet very well understood
No, the Democratic Party isn't losing because it's Too Woke:

It’s possible that just being a Yale Law School graduate, he just doesn’t understand the difference.
1/ Vance's defense of deporting wrong person to El Salvador prison relies on his (false) claim that the man was "convicted" of being a gang member.

Always precise, @kyledcheney.bsky.social points out why that's false⬇️

But it's also not a one off. It's of a piece with other mischaracterizations...

As of Friday, there have been 46 cases in which federal judges have blocked Trump policies.

The rulings in those cases have come from 39 different judges appointed by 5 different presidents (of both parties) to 11 different district courts across 7 different circuits.

Maybe it's not the judges?
