Photo of a Kansas City Chiefs press conference with Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes. Reid is wearing a gray suit and red tie with a lapel pin. Kelce is wearing a camp-style short-sleeved shirt with a bird print, along with a suede cap, and Mahomes is wearing a white collared shirt, a pink checkered double-breasted vest, and a pale pink tie.

A meme for the modern university...
Meme showing a worker labelled "academic staff" digging a hole in the ground while 10 others look labelled with management titles such as "Director of Human Resources" look on. The caption underneath reads "The only way we can cut costs is to reduce the number of academic staff..."

I'm considering taking the train and ferry from France, and using the opportunity to do some slow travel in Spain. Not a good cyclist, though.

🚨 NEW PAPER! 🚨 Being an “internationally successful” scientist depends on English. But what if you also face gender & global inequalities? We show that women from the global South publish the same total # of papers but have 70% fewer in English language. Affecting their career possibilities.

How do your #linguistic, #economic & #gender backgrounds impact your #scientific productivity? @tatsuya-amano.bsky.social & co reveal that being a woman, a non-native English speaker, and from a low-income country is associated with a 70% reduction in productivity @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4n3RLRQ
Scientific productivity gap based on English-language peer-reviewed papers. Shown are the maximum % differences in the number of peer-reviewed papers published by female native English speakers from a high-income country (-45%), female non-native English speakers from a high-income country (-60%), and female non-native English speakers from a lower-middle income country (-70%), compared to male native English speakers from a high-income country (red flag). Today, between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people demonstrated in France against the government. In the US: rien, crickets, nada. From what I see on social media, they are not even "calling their representatives" anymore.

Many of the people who dismiss AI as useless tend to be native English speakers working in English-speaking environments. For those of us who aren't, AI can be a useful tool for translation, back-translation, and finding alternative ways to express ideas more effectively in writing.

Nothing. I use it for nothing at all because AI is good at zero of the tasks I do regularly

Honestly I don't even know what its web address is, is it like a 2000s style ChatGPT.com or something funkier like chat.g.pt
