One of the first tasks of this morning was self-verifying my BSky handles. Now I'm @jorgegarciamartin.com here.

It was easier than expected, though I had to change the DNS records of my domain and for @afectivo.es as well, so probably not trivial to everyone.

We had a meeting with our accountants/advisors this morning and we briefly chatted about how complex and painful to use some accounting software is.

Ironically, making complex and clunky software is very easy. It takes experience and careful thought with users to design simple software solutions.

We found some time this morning to continue playing Split Fiction.

Both my wife and I are amazed by how nice the game looks and sounds.

I don't think that any AI model is going to be capable of producing an experience like this end to end anytime soon. And not by just prompting.

I regularly see folks hailing the end of the need to read code.

If I presented you with a bowl of candy and told you 1% had broken glass in them, what % would you check before giving them to your kids?

The need to understand code isn't going anywhere.

Writing Code May Be Dead (Not Really), But Reading Code Will Live On
“The age of the syntax writer is over”, hailed a post on LinkedIn. (Why is it always LinkedIn?)I say: welcome to the age of the syntax READER!If I presented you with a bowl of candy and…

Music publishers just hit Anthropic with what could be the biggest AI copyright lawsuit to date.

They say: “In total, we are suing for infringement of more than 20,000 songs, with potential statutory damages of more than $3 billion”.

Woke up this morning thinking about how technologically advanced we are at this point in history, as if we are living in 2041.

On the other hand, we seem to be still stuck in 1941 as a society.

Currently setting up what I'm calling for now @afectivo.bsky.social's "local inference box".

Ryzen 9, 2TB SSD, 32GB DDR5, RTX 5060 16GB and additional goodness inside.

Looking forward to running some tests and benchmarks on it!

When they claim what they're doing is somehow fair, remember that not only is it theft (which is bad enough) - it supports further theft by funding pirates.

We desperately need a hard reset in the AI industry. It must turn away from theft, and start paying the people whose work it relies on.

It's the same game, just different dice.
It is up to us to hold our industry to a higher standard, not just relying on AI tools to write the future of software, while we passively sit by. It has always been crucial for engineers to evolve their understanding of the fundamental principles and now is no different.

Just saw an "AI expert" posting on X about some technology from a startup that does Speech-To-Text and they sell it as "the end of typing".

As if typing isn't going to be needed anymore and we are all going to use our voice to interact with computers. Mostly unlikely IMO.

Human beings are generally creative. And creativity is organic, so output shifts and morphs over time. Because it is organic, you can’t have 9 mothers make a baby in one month.

So even if you are working on technical software, creativity and organic development are still part of the process.

For starting a small bakery and making a living out of it you don't need a PhD in quantum technologies for food nutrition.

You just need to learn about bakery and perhaps get some formal training on it.

Please don't do a PhD in quantum technologies for food nutrition for starting a bakery.

Once again, somebody on the internet who hasn't tried to make a living out of music or audio as a content creator is telling musicians and artists how they should do their job (with AI, of course). I hope this discourse gets old soon.

Progress on our @afectivo.bsky.social website is going really well!

Been learning lots about modern web tech stack and even ventured into modifying SVGs by hand, because why not.

Very excited about how nicely is everything coming along!

There is always this problem when you rely on cloud-hosted services. If you rely on a troubled service for doing your work, then you are blocked.

GitHub copilot is down this morning. I guess coding assistant providers will need to add a local fallback LLM in some way to not completely block people?
