Horrifying.

We need to encouraging the excellent educators to stay.

More training, better support and pay, lower ratios. More focus on the children vs paperwork.

History repeats.

It’s up to us to listen.

The awful shame is that it is a privilege to be able to leave.

Systemic failures in childcare - what a surprise!

Except it isn’t - particularly if you have been listening to educators, many of whom are leaving in droves.

Good care takes empathy, time, money, and passion. A manager can make or break a service.

While we’re banning books…

Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar.

Vale John Marsden.

As a teen, I loved his books - they were friends in a dark time.

As an adult, I found his philosophy around children and learning inspiring, challenging and thought provoking.

Be at peace, John. Thank you.

For nearly eight years we have been warning about “autocratic capture,” the phenomenon by which aspiring autocrats threaten to wield the state against business leaders to coerce their loyalty. And here we are. More from @anneapplebaum.bsky.social here: www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/how...

As a childcare worker for over 20 yrs, this case horrifies me. Where were the safeguards? An in-depth review of practices and procedures industry wide needs to happen.

Trigger warning. ‼️

I believe so passionately in Voluntary Assisted Dying.

As someone with chronic health conditions, and history of cancer- when it is time, I would like the grace to choose my day, on my terms.

Well, just imagine the results 10 years on - or longer!

Poverty serves no one except the wealthy and privileged.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

His answer is remarkable—unfortunately things didn’t work out so well in 2024.

I still find it unusual that nearly every single house on my tiny country town street growing up ended up with some form of cancer. Mine was endometrial cancer - diagnosed at 35.

Sadly we lost too many, too young.

Well said.

Unfortunately, men’s lives are still worth more than women’s.
November 21, 2024 at 8:35 PM
Quite simply - because women don’t matter to Trump or his cronies. And to a lesser extent, the press too.

Look how Domestic and Family violence is reported.
Just think about this: Trump nominated someone facing credible accusations of raping a minor. A minor.

Why isn’t the press relentlessly questioning HIM about this nomination and what the hell he was thinking? Where is the same fervor and outrage they showed about Joe Biden’s age? 🤷🤷🤷
