Here’s an important reminder: Christian Nationalism may talk a lot about Jesus, but it is completely void of Christlikeness. Rejecting Christian Nationalism isn’t rejecting Jesus. Rejecting Christian Nationalism is what following Jesus looks like.

What is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah really about? Who’s committing the sin of Sodom today? Watch for my response.

The Trump Administration is moral??? Only on Opposite Day. The moral responsibility incumbent upon pastors in this moment is not to baptize this government’s immorality, but to stand up, speak out, and resist (just like Jesus taught us). #trump #christianity #progressivechristianity

Everyone cherry-picks the Bible. What is revealing about someone’s theology is not “if” they cherry-pick, but what they cherry-pick and why.

To my LGBTQ+ siblings as we begin Pride Month🌈:

You are holy. You belong. You wonderfully bear God’s image. You are beloved, affirmed, and celebrated this month and always!

Happy Pride🏳️‍🌈!

Paul’s words in Galatians 3, that in Christ all the hierarchies we’ve constructed meet their end, is likely an early baptismal creed. If so, the earliest creed wasn’t about believing the right things, but about announcing inclusion + belonging. We should get back to that.

I’m so grateful for these kind words about “Parables” from a friend and hero, Brian McLaren.

Have you read it? If so, it would be so helpful if you’d take a couple minutes to rate and review it. It helps more people find the book. Thanks so much, friends!

Surprise! I have another book releasing soon (April 15)! This is a short book that cross-examines the way we engage the Bible and the harmful doctrines many Christians have embraced that weaponize Scripture and exclude God’s beloved children. Pre-order here: www.cokesbury.com/Cross-Examined

We haven’t been overreacting.
We haven’t been sensationalizing.
We haven’t been blowing things out of proportion.

He fancies himself a king.
He will never be my king.

Do not comply in advance.

My Christian siblings of all labels and theological perspectives, our ancestors fell for this before with Constantine. We sold out the radical message of Jesus for a religion affirmed and supported by empire. We can’t do it again, especially for Temu Constantine.

Remembering Marcus Borg today, on the tenth anniversary of his passing. Marcus’s work shaped and impacted me in immeasurable ways. He is one of those people without whom I probably wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today. What a gift he was and still is for both the academy and the church!

Changing our minds doesn’t mean we are being unfaithful to God. In fact sometimes it means just the opposite. Faithfulness looks like letting go of understandings that are too small and that don’t cultivate human flourishing.

God is a Mystery, yet there’s one thing I’m confident about: Where we are wrong about God (and we are all wrong about something) it is not because we took the idea of God’s love, patience, and compassion too far. Where we are wrong it is because we didn’t take them far enough.
