Yesterday, I walked ~4 miles through #DC with my camera, starting with the Logan Circle #nokings protest (which then marched to the north side of the WH), then I walked down by the WH to the Mall Wanted to share some photos and thoughts. I'm on insta @/shape_color_motion; doing more politics there.

Make sure you read the report about how Stephen Miller deported Waco's favorite Mexican restaurant owner.

Trump Labor Department Says His Immigration Raids Are Causing a Food Crisis
In a filing in the Federal Register, the Labor Department argues there are “immediate dangers to the American food supply” due to a lack of migrant agricultural workers.

It's striking to me that while these Bishops are speaking out, no one has discussed the possibility of denying Vance communion, as Bishops have frequently done with Democratic politicians who support abortion rights.

The same people who insisted devout Catholic Joe Biden was leading a “war on Christianity” are now cheering Trump on as his armed goons assault clergymen.

WATCH: Trump’s lawless Ice goons shoot an unarmed priest in the head with a pepper ball. Completely out of control.

There’s a very real possibility that the US economy hits stagflation, the AI bubble pops, and there’s a substantial trade war impacting services (the US major export) all at the same time, which is what I’d call, “the omnishamblesmegafuck.”

Unfortunately, people don’t go to jail for this kind of stuff nearly often enough. And given the state of the enforcement agencies that deal with white collar crime… we’re kinda screwed.

Chuck Grassley is literally as old as FM radio, and he is a terrible Senator. I am in no way defending him.
joshstein.bsky.social
A thought: Chuck Grassley (a man who has served in Congress since the Nixon administration) famously holds meetings in every single one of Iowa's 99 counties. He has done this annually for 45 years.

I'm curious what he thinks about his colleague avoiding constituents.

I've written my analysis of today's grim Supreme Court oral argument in the conversion therapy case:

As far as the Court's concerned, imaginary medical uncertainty gives states the authority to hurt queer kids, and takes away states' authority to protect them

The Conservative Justices Don't Trust Any Science That Supports LGBTQ Kids
States that want to facilitate discrimination against LGBTQ people have the Court's blessing. States that want to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination do not.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

It’s worth noting here that this question is actually indirectly for Sen Kennedy, who has explicitly made statements in the committee to nominees (including Bondi, IIRC) directing them to follow court orders.

PADILLA: Do you believe govt officials are obligated to follow court orders whether they agree with them or not, yes or no?

BONDI: I wish you loved your state of California as much as you hate President Trump

PADILLA: I asked a simple yes or no question
joshstein.bsky.social
Kennedy is a weird character. On the one hand, he’s clearly successor to Fred Thompson as Senate’s designated Foghorn Leghorn and goes on TV to say ridiculous stuff defending Trump. On the other hand, he does sometimes relish humiliating Trump appointees and nominees, including stopping some.

Sen. Kennedy with another set of probing questions about Epstein 👇

KENNEDY: Have you interviewed Secretary Lutnick?

BONDI: No senator

K: Do you plan to?

B: If he wants to talk to the FBI--

K: Don't you think you ought to talk to him after this interview? Maybe we ought to get Lutnick in here

Raju deserves a lot of credit. I remember watching the Jan 6 attack and Raju describing the attack while being evacuated from the building. This kind of questioning is exactly what's needed.

RAJU: You swore in 2 GOP members during pro forma session. Why not swear in Grijalva? Does it have to do w/her signature on Epstein petition?

JOHNSON: It has nothing to do with that. We'll swear her in when everybody is back

R: Why not now?

J: Uh - we'll schedule it, I guess, as soon as she wants
