This result doesn't look right. We're convolving the sum of two Gaussians (f₁ + f₂) by a Gaussian kernel (k), so we should get out a sum of two Gaussians (f₁ ∗ k + f₂ ∗ k). This is maybe the sum of three Gaussians? Too many inflection points to be the sum of two.

Random possible optimization: did you check if yt-dlp can do Twitter pics too? It can handle a lot of websites!

my question asked for Discourse, so you answered it!

any particular papers in there that come to mind for you? sorry for the laziness, but I only have time to skim titles...

Those are great for blurring the "programming is professional software engineering" boundaries, but I'm looking for stuff that's even more fundamental. Like I think most of us can agree that "making programs for yourself non-professionally" is programming. Is arranging layers in Photoshop?

I am especially interested in Discourse that has things to say about interactive programming systems that blur the lines between programming and use and which might make certain people say "that's not programming!".

Cool!

Tho I realize now that 'pretty-printer' was unclear for me to say. I specifically meant 'data pretty-printer'. That's, weirdly, less established than code pretty-printers.

Mobile code editing is a heckuva interesting challenge! Wonder if @maxbittker.bsky.social has thoughts about that.

forgot to mention: to encode color info into the text without changing character counts (which Prettier uses to fit layout to a given width) I shifted span-start/-stop characters into specific PUA ranges. hacky fun. 👍

I love how this is literally the opposite of Sculpin's guiding thesis
