Huge pro-Palestine protest - said to be 1 million strong -- right in front of my house in #Rome earlier today. The marching went on for hours.

The numbers of yesterday's strike for Gaza (since the @theguardian.com got the size - among other things - quite wrong): protests in more than 100 cities all over Italy, 2 million people marching, in some sectors 90% of workers on strike #FreePalestine #LetGazaLive #StopGenocide

#Bologna today, general strike: 150,000 people marching for #Palestine and demanding #StopGenocide. Israel blocked the #GSF humanitarian mission, we block everything!

Tomorrow I'll be joining the general strike to protest the Israeli genocide in Palestine and the illegal assault of the Global Sumud Flotilla. Come raise your voice to break the government's silence!

Delighted to announce (ugh, can't believe I'm saying that) that Alon Lischinsky and my bibliography of Trans Media Studies is out with Oxford Bibliographies! It's basically the equivalent of a compilation tape - key works, deep cuts and things we like

Our book 'Applying Corpus Linguistics to Illness and Healthcare' is out open access! We wrote it to share what we learnt in many years of research in @corpussocialsci.bsky.social, on topics such as communication about anxiety, dementia, cancer, obesity and vaccines. cambridgeblog.org/2025/08/appl...
Applying Corpus Linguistics to Illness and Healthcare
This book has been fun and also somewhat liberating to write. To explain this we have to tell the story of how the book came about.

After our very succesful Corpus Linguistics 2025 conference hosted by @robbielove.org at Aston, CL is going on tour! Our next conference will be Easter 2027 in Hong Kong at HK Poly U. In summer 2029 we return to Europe when @michamahlberg.bsky.social will host CL at Erlangen!

'We heard over and over during the event about "human-centered" approaches to "AI". But if refusal is not on the table (at every level: individual students and teachers right up through UNESCO) then we have in fact centered the technology, not the people'

Thought that boycotting Google would be impossible, but as of today I am surfing the web Chrome-free using Ecosia and it is great. I am now trying to find an alternative to Gmail (though the transition is going to be slower and trickier). Any suggestions? Currently considering Runbox and Posteo

That's right: remmeber life before the Covid-19 pandemic?

@journolinguist.bsky.social explores potential nostalgic markers in news about Covid as a methodological reflection on hypothesis-testing in #corpuslinguistics

What do we learn when we don't get expected results?
