Never had one spontaneously go bad, but I have several that did this (or something similar) from the get-go upon purchase these past few years, despite no obvious visual issues.

I really can’t believe how deep the lore well goes here. There was so much planning behind the world of Gunparade, and the vast majority of it—while hinted at and clearly intentional—isn’t even explained anywhere in the game itself.

Yet the game still manages to stand completely on its own.

But you pretty much HAVE to use a guide, mostly just to avoid the game-breaking bugs… 😅

Yeah, it’s essentially a totally different game with the same story. Right Stuff weirdly even reused the PC Engine cutscenes, so they end up looking really out of place. I’ve only played the first bit of the PS1 version myself, but from what I’ve played/seen, I‘d still recommend the PCE version.

It’s a crying shame that Alnam no Kiba—the RPG that he not only did character designs for but outright directed and wrote—is such a buggy mess. The skeleton of an excellent game is there! It just needed the programming to be ironed out before release…
