New #allotment & new (to me) campervan=life-changing❤️
Headed north to warm up the van & recharge battery, to our happy place. Rain had stopped but started as we arrived. Undaunted we had a good hr+ beach stroll in wind & rain.
Drenched but good haul of sea treasure incl some bits of rare blue glass & a fossil.
Heater on & drying out now. Dog snoring 💤

He was a fine specimen when younger, solid muscle. Always had an affinity for mud 🙄😂

But he & my puss cat were such good buddies ♥️ but puss cat was always top dog 😂
December 16, 2025 at 11:55 PM
He always manages to photo bomb my pics 🙄😂
But here's a couple just of him, after he'd had a good roll in the muddy wet grass 🙄
He was filthy by the end of the walk. His eyes are not so good now so he just ploughs through puddles & mud.

Then away up t'hill to catch sunset, started off promising at 3.30pm but then sun disappeared behind a bank of cloud above a ridge, leaving only pink clouds by 4pm. And then it was dark ☹️
Its cold tonight, probably ~3C now, will possibly be frosty overnight.
V thankful for my heater, 20C in van 🥵

Lots of nooks & crannies to explore, with stairs & passages that go nowhere. In places it's now genuinely tumbling down.

Liverpool Castle, a fake ruin, built 19thC (I think, can't remember but it's on Wiki) but very atmospheric & an interesting folly.
December 16, 2025 at 7:21 PM
A lovely walk in woods along the reservoir shoreline to a (fake) ruined castle on a beautiful clear sunny day with lovely reflections & colours. Did me & dog the world of good.
December 16, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Lovely view of Winter Hill & the old pigeon loft on Rivington Pike (shame about lamp post) with Horwich below, on a lovely but chilly day, much colder than the previous rainy cloud covered days, more like December should be.
We're off to find a ruined castle in the woods now...

Nipped to the café for hot chocolate & loo, it's open till 4 & serving food till 2.30 so I'll go back later for a jacket spud (& use the loo again) which I can wrap in foil to keep warm for a couple of hours.

Beach is deserted, blowy but fairly mild. Hoping it'll dry up this aft for a walk🤞

Thought it might be prudent to move the van as the rain is showing no sign of easing off & the nearby drain seems blocked...

Just the other side of hedge on right is the beach, a good source of sea glass.

I've backed up further along the road where the road drain is clear & no surface water.

A typical little Cumbrian stone chapel, perched high on a ridge facing west, built to withstand the onslaught of the weather, with ancient gravestones so old & moss covered that impossible to see inscription.
At the moment theres some patches of blue sky but the rain is forecast from late afternoon.
December 13, 2025 at 11:23 AM
This morning's view (& the layby I'm in). It's good to see green.

There's another of my favourite parkups on the side of the hill in the pic. Great views & sunsets up there but v exposed & not great when bad weather incoming from the west.

This is Diesel. Who has been known to fall out of bed while asleep. I've been there too.

Is the weird sleeping dog thing a Staffy thing? 🤔
December 12, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Despite losing my vape on a dog walk 😡, the rain dried up & it was good to get out for a short walk along a familiar canal tow path which was a regular haunt when I was living on the road in 2024.

Nice to see a little honesty box at the Canal Trust HQ shed, where they operate boat tours from.
December 12, 2025 at 7:12 PM
It's a comfortable 17C in back of van, 15C in cab. Humidity is high because it's been so wet recently & also being near canal but I've got full tank of heater fuel so I'll fire it up later & open roof vent to dry & air it.

Tomoro in daylight I'll fit wind deflectors on windows for ventilation.

1st dog walk on beach for a week as weather been so bad & I've been so busy. Took advantage of rain stopping this aft to give the boy a good run & rewarded with unexpected sunset golden light about 3.30pm for a brief while. Sunset in far SSE this time of year, no longer visible behind buildings.
December 9, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Rain stopped, a clearer brighter sky & calmer sea at about 3pm today, photos taken from the bus.
December 9, 2025 at 5:29 PM
Morning ORCs, managed to catch a glimpse of sunrise before it clouded over. According to long term persistently rainy forecast, may not see another sunrise for a couple of weeks.
Plans for weekend look to be a wash out☹️
December 5, 2025 at 8:44 AM
Finally sunrise in the south east about 0815h, & it's looking like it's going to be dry again today & some blue sky instead of greyness. But chilly 4C & brisk wind.
Another 6 weeks of darkness before the days start noticeably getting longer ☹️
December 3, 2025 at 8:34 AM
It's been a while since I've seen a pretty #sunrise & this morning's wasn't great but it was a visible sunrise for 1st time in about a week. So much more #uplifting than a blanket of greyness.

A very rare #culinarytriumph

Aldi cauliflower cheese readymeal, cooked in microwave, transferred to metal bowl with extra grated cheese & diced sliced salami on top, air fryer 10 mins.

Best meal I've made for a very long time.

Minimal washing up too.

Total cost probably under £3 incl elec

Facebook memory from this day a year ago, name & some info redacted.
I was parked up at Tebay motorway services on M6 in Cumbria overnight but due to severe cold that week (around -15 most nights), I'd booked a hotel room for few nights.
You have to be hardcore to live in that part of the world.

Morning ORCs, introducing @geeclarke3.bsky.social to you all, they may be a sporadic ORC.
Late today as I'm tired after a day of paperwork - home insurance & breakdown renewals & quotes for better deals plus dealings with Uni Credit online🤯
Pretty lines in sky but sun still not yet risen.
November 21, 2025 at 7:53 AM
Altho reluctant to return to flat last night I'm glad we did as v cold in van this morn when I unloaded some stuff😱 colder inside than out!
But lovely solar power today to recharge the leisure battery & warm up the flat thru the balcony patio door.
Dog is happily reunited with his Rudolph pjs😁
November 20, 2025 at 11:21 AM
Doesn't the blue sky & sun make such a difference? Not a cloud in sky here 😍
But mostly staying inside today, lots of stuff to catch up on & me & dog both tired, still stuff to unload from van.
Dog is happily crashed out with his Rudolph pjs on 😁
