Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says “It hurts when I do this.” Doctor says “Treatment is simple. Don’t do this.” Man bursts into tears.

“But Doctor, I *am* do this.”

Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

Lol how do you irresponsibly use the information that someone is following a racist or a transphobe?
for.shame.wtf
Some of you are blaming @jay.bsky.team or @bsky.app in general, or claiming that this is being forced by @moderation.bsky.app. That could not be further from the truth. I'm shutting it down of my own volition because some of you can't be trusted to use this information reasonably and responsibly.

No one even knows whether he's a) lying or b) confabulating or c) someone has shown him unrelated/dated/fake images that he somehow believed and did not verify

Everyone can set aside partisanship, psychologizing, pathologizing, whatever, and—I would hope—still see that it’s incredibly dangerous for a political leader to be this disconnected from the real conditions in the country.

I think kobos have been getting better and kindles have been getting buggier in my experience
jsthrill.modphi.com
I just realized why they are called *contact* lenses
jsthrill.modphi.com
Yeah, I often buy books from smashwords or similar rather than from kobo store directly (and there are guides online for how to jailbreak your kobo store purchases for digital archiving purposes), and it’s smoother than doing all that for kindle purchases
jsthrill.modphi.com
No idea if this would be any smoother on kindle, though; when the library does have a book I want, the syncing works well
jsthrill.modphi.com
I am actually finding the library book access somewhat frustrating, but it is a byproduct of the books I am looking for (older books that tend to have a variety of editions on libby, which means they often aren’t in my local library or don’t have the right format for my kobo)
jsthrill.modphi.com
The thing I miss most about kindle is a feature my most recent kindle lacked: auto-adjusting light, but my kobo has better battery life than my kindle paperwhite 11th gen or whatever had
jsthrill.modphi.com
Which kobo do you have? I would say my kobo is comparable to the level of buggy as my kindle, and is slightly better (it has physical buttons!) and orthogonal in some ways (I got a clara colour and don’t know what the color kindles are like)

Pritzker: "He said he was going after the worst of the worst. It's not going after the worst of the worst when you're just literally stopping children who happen to be brown & asking them for papers as if they're gonna have proof they're a citizen. Pull out your phones and film everything you see"

In an old ad for board game Scattergories in Spain a player was shown flouncing out while anothet said “OK, we’ll accept ‘octopus’ as a pet”.
“Aceptamos pulpo” has now entered the language in the meaning of “that’s a bit of a stretch but let’s go with it just for the sake of argument”.

just going to mention that I switched from Kindle to Kobo and I am very happy with my Kobo. Sometimes it is harder to find an ebook, but if lots of people also switched from Kindle to Kobo, I bet the kobo store and ebook options and libraries would improve

I think my favorite moment of Kamala Harris’ authentic instinct to take the right action was when she just put out a book a fucking week ago where she admitted how she didn’t do that

I can’t believe I have to say this, but historically, masked men who kidnap families in the middle of the night are usually not the good guys.

The government's lack of a plan prompted Comey's counsel, Fitzgerald, to say that the prosecution "put the cart before the horse."

Usually, you figure out classified information issues in consultation w/ DOJ's national security division *before* bringing a case, he said.

MORE: The government indicated that it is not yet sure how it intends to handle the potential use of classified information at trial — i.e., whether it will use the process set out in the Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA) or opt to declassify the information.

At one point during the hearing, the judge asked the prosecution why the case can’t be tried before mid-December.

Lemons replied: We are “just getting our hands around” discovery in the case.

There’s lots of it, he added, and it includes a “significant” amount of classified information.
