That said I do wonder about slipping in something that was often used to remind kings they were mortal into a painting about the "King of Kings" as the phrasing may be.

First year art student just learning about memento mori in still life and dropping a reference to the Dutch tradition.

I'm pretty sure my previous 30+ books a year dropped of to about 3-5/yr when I was doing my PhD. Three years later and I'm only back up to about 15/yr, and that's counting audiobooks at the same time as texts.

I suspect it's pretty common.

Oh man so many issues.

(1a) I'd go for wood screws instead of nails
(1b) Power drills are your friend, bucko
(2) I'd do it on the flat face, not the side with the diagonal board that sticks out
(3) I'd have it stained/painted like the rest before I put it there.

Yeah that dude undeservedly factors in to way too much local lore. The cave I had my wedding in a town over claims he hid out there after that robbery, but honestly its history as a speakeasy is much cooler (Lost River Cave).

The link has a photo of the mural, and I can confirm it was in the bank in the town square at least when I lived there.

The best part is that it's not actually 100% clear that it was James that robbed them and not a copycat/impostor.

It's not even a matter of technology from what they present; a training data set of 3 minutes is simply impossible for anything beyond "slightly modified average old lady output with your mom's image as an avatar"

That's not a comment that he's above critique so much as about just an aberration of language that is utterly unglued from nation-context.

Something something "private languages aren't real" something something "stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen".

To be clear, that's not a knock on anyone, there are *a lot* of folk etymologies that don't have clear attestations and are mostly because of sound similarity, but this one follows through.
