If you're talking magical energy source then it takes about day for decay and eventual putrefaction to start, dependent upon temperature and humidity conditions. It's the decay that ultimately undoes rigor mortis as the muscles themselves start breaking apart.

Muscles are built out of these interlaced bands, and they naturally pull in against each other. It takes ATP to break those bonds and get the bands to "relax".

Rigor mortis is what happens when the ATP is depleted and they become stuck.

The more practical question if you're getting into the weeds is how long the muscles function to do mechanical work without respiration and circulation, because the ATP reserves would be depleted pretty quickly.

Rigor mortis typically sets in a few hours after death, peaks around half a day, and then the muscles themselves start significantly decaying around the one to two day mark, iirc.

Oh, the “vomiting ferret” model is absolutely a real thing - I’ve encountered it in my own drug discovery career.

They’re one of the smallest animals that show this response- weirdly, rodents can’t do it at all.

That's by a technicality that, historically, seating has been done even after unofficial results as a courtesy. It's a break from that norm to refuse to seat her.

Johnson cannot keep her out of the seat after the results are certified next week.
