Postdoctoral researcher aspiring for the next step in the academia world. Love parasites 🪱 immune cells and neurons, 🇲🇽🏳️‍🌈 He/him/his Opinions are my own.
I am over the moon to share that I have received the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award by the NIH-NIAID!!! I’m enormously grateful to my mentors, Wenqin Luo and De’Broski Herbert, the support from PennVet and PennMedicine and my husband! Eager to start my lab soon in 🧠💉🪱 interactions!

Online now: Online now: Splenic TNF-α signaling potentiates the innate-to-adaptive transition of antiviral NK cells
Splenic TNF-α signaling potentiates the innate-to-adaptive transition of antiviral NK cells
NK cells possess innate and adaptive features, but unlike T and B cells, NK cells are not thought to require priming in lymphoid organs. Mujal et al. demonstrate that the spleen supports enhanced expansion of a CD69lo adaptive NK cell precursor population…

Despite the uncertainty of the future of all researchers, I’m happy to share a preprint from our work asking the role of pain-sensing TRPV1 neurons against infection with the parasite Schistosoma mansoni
TRPV1+ neurons promote cutaneous immunity against Schistosoma mansoni. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.06.636930v1

Hope that this is only temporary, otherwise we need to bring attention to this! 🤦‍♂️
98% of NIH grants that should have gone out this month, didn't. Despite court orders 'unfreezing' the funds, they are frozen. Biomedical research will grind to a halt. Clinical trials will end. All for no reason: the total impact on the US budget is miniscule

RELMβ sets the threshold for microbiome-dependent oral tolerance - Nature
RELMβ mediates a gut immune–epithelial circuit regulating tolerance to food antigens, offering targetable candidates for the prevention and treatment of food allergies.
