Norovirus is surging across the country, and all I can think of is a video @thespeechprof.bsky.social recently responded to of a woman bragging that she doesn't wash her hands after going to the bathroom at home.

(This is a thread about hand-washing but also about justice and living our values).

How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example).
1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company.
2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly.

Bleeting sounds like something anyone can do.

Skeeting brings a certain pressure to be pithy and witty.

Bleeting is far more accessible. The 101, if you will.

Skeeting is advanced. It needs supervision and elbow pads.
also oh my sheep you could literally call them bleets for Blue Sky

Good news for once!

We’ve found a 300-year-old coral that’s so big it’s visible from space. It’s now considered the world’s largest. Best of all: it’s not yet harmed by climate change & global warming.

It’s being called a beacon of hope. Let it also be a call to action! #DoSomething 🧵

My word of the day (and personal recommendation) is ‘snerdling’ (18th century): nestling cosily beneath the covers and holding off the day a little longer.

Morning.

Covid is no laughing matter.

There’s a Norwegian version of the idiom “like a fish out of water” that translates to “like a Dane on skis.” And an old Norwegian phrase for someone sneaking out of a party without saying goodbye is “making a Swede of oneself.” Conversely, a Finnish euphemism for vomiting is “speaking Norwegian”

I'm looking to follow a variety of humans to broaden the input I'm getting.

If you are, or know of, someone who could be interesting to follow, please let me know!

I'd like to add more non-US and, to a lesser extent, non-UK people & perspectives... (can include other languages)

Starter packs are genius, but I was surprised there wasn't a list of them for people to find.

So I built it:
blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack...

The website monitors the packs being shared and adds the ones it finds to the database.

Missed your stater pack? Message me and I'll get it added.
