One of the most astonishing - like really astonishing things - @theul.bsky.social in Cambridge. The Moore Bede - prime manuscript of the first English history, given by the King-Elector George I in 1715. Seems to have spent time at the court of Charlemagne. Isn’t that just multiple wow?
Bede, the English monk & scholar, died #OTD in 735. We are privileged to look after the earliest known copy of his 'Ecclesiastical History of the English People', made in the middle of the 8th century & possibly as early as 737. Digitized in full! #bede cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-KK-0...

Fellow medievalists, esp. charter people, a question out of ignorance: how common was it that single people were 'exchanged' as Heloise and Emeline were in the act below (source: The Cartulary of Blanche Countess of Champagne, ed. T. Evergates, p. 58). Thanks!

This is desperately sad news. Björn was one of the kindest and funniest people in our trade, as well as a brilliant scholar. He will be terribly missed - and live on in our fond and grateful memories.
I am devastated to share the news that our colleague and friend, Björn Weiler, Professor of History at Aberystwyth University, passed away after a period of illness. He was one of most kind and helpful people you could encounter in academia, and a world-leading scholar of medieval kingship.
