I just re-watched Cabaret (1972). My mom was a tap dancer so I knew the music/dance numbers long before I understood the story. It’s not really about singing and dancing; it’s about people going on about life while evil takes hold around them. I return to it from time to time and always find it new

"If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him"*

*Not an incitement to violence but rather Buddhist wisdom

You've been doing that for a lot longer than 5 years....

Speaking for myself, after running across the country for the last five years trying to warn folks, only to have people /outlets frantically calling me not to come out and explain what's happening in this environment.. you're too damn late. And I am not risking my safety .

So since I'm annoyed let me say a few things today. Some folks have been writing about Christian Nationalism and apocalyptic right wing movements for YEARS here in the US. YEARS. Do we get to have a platform in major mags and newspapers... rarely.

Here's one more for you. I walked up to where I could see the jetties yesterday.
Beautiful beach on a full moon rise with a weathered tiki sunshade

They're waiting until after 2026. None of them could get elected and MAGA wouldn't follow *them* to overthrow the government. But after that Trump should watch his back because he's no use to them anymore

Someone looking at all this with a cold eye might say that Miller and Hegseth are seeking control over the power ministries before a Vance ally invokes the 25th Amendment.

what if I told you that taking accountability for your actions was traditionally considered a load-bearing feature of masculinity?

“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

Billionaire grifters are about to dismantle your government. So instead of your tax dollars going to your Medicare or your Medicaid or your affordable care act or to veterans benefits or your social security - it will go to THEM in the form of tax cuts for the wealthy.

Clothing is an incredible opportunity for Americans to communicate their identity and values to bystanders and historians during huge cultural moments.

Uniforms, symbols, labels, and colors could make a lasting impression and go viral.

I hope folks think a lot about what they wear on 10/18...

Protests are amping up in major cities & #NoKings2 is on 10/18. Trump administration wants to use violence to provoke violence. What if we resist that and print "NonViolent Protester" on the back of our shirts. It would be a great visual in the media

Just the other day the US government signed a deal for US agencies to use Grok. Today's Grok's Twitter summary of the news regarding the budget impasse is it that the Democrats have blocked a deal

Orwell was of by 40 years in time, but spot on about the actions

And also, we are not in the "worst case scenario." It's going to get a whole lot worse unless somebody stops it. If you didn't listen before, please listen now

As far as I can tell the only thing he really cares about funding is ICE
julieingersoll.bsky.social
Wrong. All you had to do was read project 2025 or listen to those of uswho had. Destroying science, education & media, seizing authoritarian control over the presidency, destroying the administrative state, & the brutal fight against immigrants was all there. They're just getting to women's rights

This. This administration is even worse than any of us thought possible. Who had destroy NIH, CDC, USAID, EPA, scientific research all at the same time on their bingo card?

My thesis is that no matter how doomer you were in Nov. 2024, we're probably past your worst-case scenario for the first 9 months of this administration.

It's very strange for me to realize I wasn't pessimistic enough.

I'm watching coverage of the gov shutdown. Absent is the recent Supreme Court action allowing the president to rescind budgeted funds. They destroyed the negotiation necessary for this process. How can there be compromise when one side has established that they won't abide by agreements they make?

I know they have our information, and maybe I'm naive, but it seems like the TSA verification for security purposes is different from a system to give you permission to leave
