👏 @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social for exposing the gas rip-off! Gas was just 30% of UK power last year but glas plants set prices 97% of the time.
That's how 2 plants made £18m in 3 hrs last winter.
Time to stop rigging energy in favour of fossil fuels!

The Nottinghamshire gas plant they climbed is owned by German energy giant RWE - who has raked in over £1BN of 'capacity market' gas plant contracts, paid for via British energy bills.

RWE is now lobbying for similar mechanisms to be set up in Germany..

New analysis from @cmmonwealth.bsky.social shows nearly 1/4 of the average UK energy bill in 2024 went to company profits, not reinvestment.
Not only that, shareholders of 🇬🇧's privatised energy companies got at least £70.7bn in dividend payouts from 2010 - 2025.

In the US, capacity auction prices - paid via costs passed on to consumers by utilities - are set to soar off the back of rocketing energy demand from data centres.

There is huge potential here for energy bill savings - but only if the UK acts on the recommendations.

Heat pumps do come with a higher up-front cost - but maximising running cost savings unlocks more options to finance those upfront costs and deliver long-term savings
