A parent’s “withhold allowance and ground, to in order to punish bad behavior” would be entirely nonsensical if there were not an implied power to punish!

IANAL but I don’t really even understand the argument even accepting its premise that “provide for the general welfare” is a subclause. A power to “collect tax… to provide for the general welfare” certainly implies a power to provide for the general welfare, or else what are the taxes for!

Of all things people have come after you for, “matt doesn’t understand the difference between mean and median” might be the funniest bit yet

Yeah, I think “more than happy” probably overstates the case. Wary of generalizing too much from personal experience but most tech dropouts I’ve met were (at the time of dropping out) either founder types or returning to jobs where they’d been interns (so much more ability signal than an interview!)

My view is that the signaling is of the form “able to undertake an intellectually challenging project on the order of multiple years” rather than “qualified to get into college”

Also, like, I am sympathetic to the “y-axis doesn’t start at 0” complaint when someone is trying to portray a graph as indicating a dramatic *relative* change, but if you’re trying to refute “line goes down” by showing “line goes up” it doesn’t matter in the slightest lol

If the indictment is not procedurally sound, *was there* and indictment to dismiss in the first place?

I’ve been hearing from lots of friends about “narrative without data” and it does seem like it’s been getting substantially worse recently. Concerning.
