Latest Second Opinion is about a well known conservative Canadian psychologist. It's often said that his advice is 'on the face of it' pretty all right. Is it? What are the implications of a bad guy giving good advice? What does socialist relationships advice do?

Do you ever get the feeling that nothing seems to work anymore?

Bills go up. Services get worse. Basics are luxuries. How did we get here?

I'm listening to Music For 18 Musicians. What a superb piece of music. (listen to the 1996 recording with Steve Reich and Musicians)

“…the top priority should be to lay the ghost of September 2022”.

Couldn’t agree more with Tooze.

The crisis consists of the fact that likelihood of his advice being followed is zero.

Sadly I just also found out that he had a fire at his studio which destroyed the whole set for YOUARENOWHERE and this thing you went to see is now one of the only things he has left of his previous work because it was over here in London :-(

Thanks for alerting me to this. We went to his show YOUARENOWHERE years ago and it was amazing

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?

🇮🇹 For the fourth straight day, Rome was flooded with protests for Gaza. Organizers said one million people marched on Sunday, October 5, from Porta San Paolo by the Pyramid of Cestius to Piazza San Giovanni. La Repubblica described it as a “human tide” — an endless procession still streaming past...

The Battle of Ideas is one of the many fronts of the reactionary Furedi/LM Network www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v3... which since been granted additional support from Viktor Orban's MCC Brussels where Furedi is a director. An LM member, Munira Mirza, was one of Boris Johnson's key advisors for 14 years.

Apparently there’s this event happening called “The Battle of Ideas” - it makes you think there might be discussions from different viewpoints, but if you look at the speakers, it’s just crammed full of transphobes and their mates talking to each other! 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s one big echo chamber! 🙄

What strikes you as more likely? That the whole country of seventy million people has unaccountably gone insane, or that maybe two thousand people who all know each other and work together, often in the same building, have slowly roasted each others’ brains to lunacy. www.ft.com/content/c7e4...

It’s not the public’s fault that senior Labour figures chose to make roaring defence of Israel’s right to destroy their subject population the core of their propaganda pitch to the public, right before Israel ramped up their genocidal project. All of that is on the government, who did this gladly.

This is grim & dangerous over reach.

This is a government that have lost the moral argument & are still selling arms to Israel. Now further cracking down on dissent.

Absolutely the opposite of what they should be doing - so of course this is what the Labour Government choose.

NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.
