Here’s a question I get a lot:

> “Now that AI can generate front-end UIs for us, what’s the point of learning CSS ourselves?”

I think there are lots of reasons, including that you can use AI much more effectively if you understand CSS yourself.

But is that actually true? Let’s discuss. 🧵

I wrote a post on @whtwnd.com about sustaining events.

This also explains why I am pushing @c-base.org events like @bhnt.c-base.org away from meetup towards @smokesignal.events and encourage new events like @swapfest.berlin or HashBerg to use it in the first place.

Context I observed suboptimal and unsustainable patterns in several groups that I organize events with. For example Berlin Hack\&Tell started out with meetup.com/berlin-hack-and-tell. In the beginni...

I have said it before and will say it again: any startup that has a mission to "replace devs" or create "AI Engineers" I don't want to have anything to do with

Top comments from my latest talk on AI

"Scott has gone bonkers with his inclusivity thing. Would you like to see an equal amount of men and women among plumbers too? How about electricians? Fishermen? Builders? Earthdiggers? Tractor drivers? Scott, apparently, would like more women on these jobs."

Thanks very much I appreciate the word of support, but do note that I have no professional obligation to share material on Twitter. I was on Twitter for almost 20 years sharing information for free. My account remains and I may return when the Nazis leave

The US is intending to remove the "X" for gender on passports. I have non-binary friends and don't see why they have to pick an option that makes no sense, or how "X" harms other people. So I commented on the Federal Register.

Something feels very wrong - and even sinister - in dressing up a large language model as if it was a human. By even generating a human face to it.

Your computer is not a human (though useful) and AI agents are not humans either (tho can be useful.)

I don't like this at all:

The current state of AI integration into office products (like Google Workspace, O365) is so disappointing.

Demos suggest these things can do reliable data manipulation. But every time I try things like "create a comma-separated list from these columns" it makes stuff up.

A fun CSS-only experimentation using modern features (anchor positioning, @property, :has(), and more!)

Code & Demo: css-tip.com/bouncy-input/

Is it useful? Probably not.
Is it cool? Yes!

it should take about 5 minutes and I'd love for folks to fill it out, I'm writing a zine about the terminal and my goal is to understand who we're writing it for a little better s.surveyplanet.com/wkepwlsp
