My definition of a "safe" relationship is one in which you can show someone your real self without fearing-- or knowing-- it'll be used against you.

You'd think that wouldn't be too much to ask from someone who shares your name and/or DNA.

You get to have expectations of others. It is not unreasonable to expect certain things from people who have opted into roles in your life. You don't need to feel guilty for asking people to live up to certain standards & adhere to certain boundaries if they want access to you.

The fact that there may not be anyone to straightforwardly blame for the pain or instability in our early life does not mean we don't get to acknowledge or resent the chaos we experienced.

"Fault" may be complicated-- & we STILL get to be angry, sad, or hurt.

The highest rate on record.

It staggers me that no-one in public health seems to be acknowledging that immune dysregulation caused by prior SARS-CoV-2 infection is likely a significant factor in this, and the implications of this concept going forward.

Reminder that free will exists and New Year’s resolutions don’t have to suck. Resolve to eat every kind of cheese, pet every dog you see, resolve to take pictures of clouds and look up what you see. No one needs to be a “better version of themselves” when they can visit every local brewery.

The reason I don’t have my students look at their own chromosome in class is because people could learn that their chromosomal sex doesn’t match their physical sex, and learning that in the middle of a 10-point assignment is JUST NOT THE TIME.

Merci! 🎄

Remember today an essential, non negotiable part of recovery is getting more things in your life that you like. That you enjoy. That turn you on. That you can turn to for soothing & laughter & comfort. We call these things "reinforcers," & they are irreplaceable recovery tools.

Please know that if the underlying, distressing, issue is never addressed, then the autistic person is not only still upset, but is being punished—or having rewards taken away, for being in distress. That is an unfair and horrible way to live. 2/

Here are some avoidable issues that may upset autistic people to the point of self-injury or aggression, yet parents or caregivers might be told such behavior is “just autism,” or that the autistic person needs behavioral conditioning therapy. At TPGA:

Supporting neurodivergent communities means taking our accommodations seriously, even if you don't understand them.

The witch made him hot chocolate.

"They say I'm strong," he said. "And I am."

He took a sip.

"They say I can overcome any hardship."

"Mm," said the witch.

"And I can. I do."

The witch said nothing.

"But I shouldn't have to!"

"No."

The witch held the hero as he wept.

"No, you shouldn't."

What many people mean by "tough love" has nothing to do w/ realistic problem solving or effective life strategizing-- they're just trying to bypass the actual work of recovery, which requires self-acceptance & self-compassion in the service of sustainable, incremental change.
