I've made a bunch of graphic novels. Most recent: CAROUSEL SUMMER (kids) and I HATED YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL (adults).

Some details: My favourite part of this pattern is the shoulder seams. That's what initially drew me to making it. I have inserted piping into the seam & also added piping to the top edge of the collar, and bottom edge of the cuffs (not pictured). I Lace bound the inner seams. & used snap closures.

I definitely prefer the sensation of flat felled seams (this lace is a tiny bit scratchy). Close up of the blue-grey snap used to close the placket.

While I'm at it, posting sewing photos. Here's this shirt. I installed the snaps & sewed the last few seams this morning. I absolutely love this pattern, it's SO comfy. Perfect amount of almost oversized, while still looking very put together, professional, and like I have a personality.

ok i did, in fact, successfully sew a couch cover & it turned out ridiculously cute!

Couch feat. the quilt I made two years ago, cushions I made, and 2 ikea cushions to balance it all out.

Continuing to update my little quilt progress thread. I've just got 2 more rows & then the border & this quilt top will be done!

Idk yet if I'm going to keep it or gift it. I'm never sure if friends like... want my pieces as gifts & I don't want to burden anyone with that haha.

This quilt is a scraps project. I'm using bits leftover from a quilt I finished last december. This is my first time doing EPP blocks that are so complex (the prev project was all hexies) and as I remove the papers and unfold the outer seam allowances to sew I'm learning a lot haha.

Having your books banned is sad & frustrating. All us queer authors want is for queer kids to live full lives.
Text: These are fears that every LGBTQ kid faces in the United States. To remove books that share a message of love and acceptance tells these kids that their fears are founded, that they are not safe or valued. This is more harmful to children than access to reading could ever be, as statistics for suicide amongst LGBTQ youth can attest. text: Those of us who survive to adulthood learn that being gay, trans, or any member of the LGBTQ community is not a choice to be condemned, but a wonderful part of yourself to be celebrated. text: My heart hurts for the kids who need books like JO, who need books that show them that it’s okay to be different, that they are not alone. text: Is the world not cruel enough already?

And a truth that I know deep in my heart is that the freedom to read a broad range of literature is fundamental to the wellbeing of students, and to democracy itself. text: Reading stories from a wide range of perspectives builds empathy and compassion and helps kids to better understand the world around them.  Text: In JO, the titular character writes on her blog “I think what scared me most about coming out was how people would react. I was scared my parents would be disappointed. I was scared my sisters wouldn’t want to be around me. I was scared my friends wouldn’t like me anymore.”

It’s clear that JO is being targeted because it discusses LGBTQ issues with honesty.

Text: School District in Arkansas banned JO: An Adaptation of LIttle Women (Sort Of), Good afternoon Kathleen,... text: In it was a link to an article where a man in another country, in a place I have never visited, who does not know me, calls me a [censored] and sinister and a [censored] because 'JO' features a lesbian protagonist. comic: the image zooms out and the background darkens as the person at the computer says "oh." text: I'm ashamed to admit that I cried. That reading this made me feel scared & small & alone. I felt paralyzed.

My copy of an old project came in the mail today. 3 years ago I attended a conference at UBC that paired cartoonists with researchers working in the field of migration with the goal of creating comics together. It was a very interesting experience.

the lighting in my apartment today is terrible but pls enjoy my final ceramics assignment (plus progress shots before glazing). The assignment was to create a geometric form of interlocking pieces using leatherhard slabs. These are intended to be pattern weights.

Here's a bunch of test prints I made for a block printing card workshop.

& also a head's up that I actually do have quite a bit of printmaking knowledge and love the excuse to get to use it!
