I've made a bunch of graphic novels. Most recent: CAROUSEL SUMMER (kids) and I HATED YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL (adults). I teach comics & illustration around Vancouver. I spend my spare time sewing. Portfolio can be found here: http://www.kagcomix.com/

Last night I dreamt that I had accidentally bought and was using cat toothpaste (which featured whole mini shrimps crammed into the tube). Throughout the dream I had the itching sensation that this is not the first time I've dreamt of this dental scenario.

everything is getting tighter and tighter, and at least for those of us in creative industries it's on top of there just not being any work. something is going to break and it's going to happen sooner than later.

groceries and consumer goods way higher, higher deductibles/employee contributions for health and other benefits, weaker dollar, frozen labor market. this is an incredible squeeze!

My breaking file on the province requiring a referendum to kill Vancouver's Park Board.

Sim is avoiding criticism of the province on this decision — but he was originally hopeful to get rid of the park board in six months.

But he lost political capital, and the province wasn't inclined to help.
B.C. government says Vancouver requires a referendum to eliminate its park board | CBC News
The B.C. government has put forward legislation that would only allow the City of Vancouver to eliminate its independently elected parks board if it is approved by local voters in a referendum.

Why are all the bad things "here to stay" and all the things I love up for constant debate until they're eroded out of life altogether?

Not only have editors prevented me from showing my ass in public, so has hiring sensitivity readers. I’m a big fan of both. Having someone be honest with you while also keeping your best interests at heart is something to be valued not dismissed

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

This sounds like some kind of weird humble-brag but it’s really true. You don’t have to eat glass, but you’d be surprised how far you can get by being reliable and easy to work with. Raw drafting talent is worth nothing if you’re a piece of shit who can’t hit deadlines.

Todd McFarlane: The one thing I've learned as I got older is you can't change personality. You either eat glass or not. You can't teach that. Rob LIefeld and I were glass eaters. Not the best artists, but we stood up. You should have seen what happened if we actually had f*ckin'' talent."

BREAKING🚨

ABC votes unanimously to lock in huge cuts to Vancouver’s public services, throw out the 2026 budget consultation, and sell out the city we love to the rich.

A shameful day for the city, with impacts to be felt for years to come.

They posted a survey that was cleverly worded to manufacture consent for a 0% increase.

They didn't bother pretending to care about waiting for the survey's results to be reported.

Very frustrating to have a mayor and his party so desperate for a win in next year's election that they shoot their own city in the foot.

They will lie through their teeth that this is a win, but ABC has enthusiastically sabotaged city operations and infrastructure, and everyone is going to suffer.

impossibly embarassing city council & mayor

Sim giving final comments. A lot going on. Doubles down on zero means zero. He brings up that Bligh invests in bitcoin. Says non abc councillors support a 6-7 property tax increase. Bligh is now responding bc her personal investments were brought up. She says has every right to invest her personal $

You know when the cost of living goes up and you don't get a raise so you have to start giving things up to survive?

That's what it means when politicians vote for 0% property tax increases. It means they will just do less. It means expect less. It means we don't deserve the same, let alone more.

This morning the ABC-majority council voted to pursue a 0% increase to property taxes for next year.

The city staff's report recommended 5-7% just to maintain services.

Every non-ABC councillor opposed.

A number of opposition call-in comments usually only seen for rezoning motions.

Passed 6-4.

Protect the land that inspired this page.
A page from Kate Beaton’s “Ducks”. Five panels, in panel 1 we see Kate’s feet on the beach at the edge of the water. In panel 2 we see a wave wash over her feet. In Panel 3 we see a zoomed out image of the shoreline, beautiful and calm, wild and undeveloped, Kate is still standing at the shore, dwarfed by the landscape. In panel 4 we see Kate looking up and shielding her eyes against the sun with her arm. In panel 5 we see her perspective, a seagull crossing the disc of the sun.

I've been working on an essay about The Struggles of TTRPG Outreach and Fandom but I think this tumblr post just captured the whole sentiment im like 100 words.
Fact: Apart from pure recognition factor, one of the major reasons your fanart gets more eyes on it than your OCd is because people are perverts for narrative context, and your OCs don't have any.

Corollary: you don't actually need to write a whole-ass graphic novel to achieve that narrative context. You do need to know what your OC's story is, but once you do, you can literally just draw contextless snapshots from that story that raise more questions than they answer and people will fill in the blanks.

Yeah I think I'm going to make it all the way through just to have done it once. But oof a lot of these episodes are a drag.
