This popped on my LinkedIn and I would like to talk about the mythologizing of enterprises like Taylor Swift as the "underdog".

What happened here isn't some scrappy independent film. Taylor Swift is a massive multi-billion dollar enterprise. If I recall it is 2x-3x larger than something like A24.

We should begin this in high school and ALL citizens and residents should be made to participate in the public service at a local level for a minimum period of time every month.

Leadership positions should be rotated into and at some levels randomized. You shouldn't be able to take national level positions without a record in local service PLUS having mandatory education standards in governance/law/economics/etc.

Personally, I think e need to move to an actual meritocratic system based on actual public service and not a bag of handpicked sycophants parachuted into constituencies whose entire record is "paved a road in the month before the election". More power should be in the hands of local governments and communities. The relationship should be parallel governance not a single heirarchy.

Jamaica is in need of DEEP systemic reform. We aren't going to advance without it. Wasting time watching these people trace and defend foolishness. Not a serious discussion on policy. Our "democracy" is a scam and they know it. Too much power is entrenched in 63 people. Our vote is reduced to a largely binary choice of candidates who we have no say in.

That said, I think that it has succeeded as a work of art in provoking this conversation. I don’t think there is one right way to approach things like satire/parody/etc. we really only have these vague rules to go by. Anyway, this reaction is pop culture digesting this work so only time will tell and I’m glad we are interrogating it.
