semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

As someone who lives above a sports bar in Chicago I can confirm the Bears won. Though I’m more distinctly hearing a lot of “fuck the Packers” / “fuck Green Bay” chants.

~<Every single institution> we have is counter-majoritarian:

- A hyper-gerrymanded House

- A hyper-malapportioned Senate with staggered elections

- FPTP SMDs in a continent-wide country with our urban/rural population distribution

- The EC

Stop it. We need <checks on counter-majoritarianism>

Still never got a good explanation for why working people living in apartments not getting subsidized garbage collection are helping to subsidize garbage collection for the rich single family home people who can def afford it.

Meanwhile Mayor Johnson’s budget - you know, the “progressive one” that “taxes the rich” to give to CPD inflates that budget to over HALF of our total corporate fund. And continues to borrow to pay off misconduct settlements.

How is this unethical. Please explain how it is unethical to make this information public. Ethical governing is not strict adherence to rules when those rules conflict with basic ethical principles.
NEW: The Chicago Board of Ethics fined ex-Inspector General Joe Ferguson $5,000 for violating the city’s ethics law by divulging a confidential report that found officials could have stopped a plume of dust from enveloping Little Village when crews demolished a former power plant. @wttw.bsky.social

If you don’t think the offenses are serious enough to warrant a prosecutor’s time then maybe idk they shouldn’t be felonies?

But seriously though this is bad policy. A felony gun offense that the prosecution later drops can still seriously mess up someone’s life.
new: cook county state's attorney eileen o'neill burke is expanding a program that allows chicago cops to file felony weapons charges without prosecutor review.

under the new "expedited felony review standard," chicago police citywide can now directly file unlawful weapons possession charges.

1. Perhaps the order is unclear
2. No one read the order
3. "Folks actively chose to ignore it"

Ellis said it could not be No. 3, because that would violate Bovino's oath
