Great write up from @charlielynch.bsky.social in The National yesterday covering the upcoming 30th Anniversary of the Scottish Oral History Centre. My brilliant advisor and Director of the Centre @ymcfadden.bsky.social front and centre alongside the bona fide legend and founder Arthur McIvor!

This newspaper hoarding – hung by Tom Leonard here on his bookcase – was described by the author as

“the only ‘trophy’ I ever got for my poetry that continues to give me some pleasure, when I remember it.”

A sheet of paper from a newspaper hoarding, suspended in front of a set of bookshelves. The paper hoarding is creased, having been folded up for a long time. The hoarding is white, with a blue bar along the bottom bearing the logo of THE SCOTSMAN newspaper. The headline is hand-written in thick black marker pen:

Past leader of Glasgow City Council, known as Lazarus Lally for repeated resurrection in the face of scandal. You have to hand it to him:
Cover of “Lazarus only done it once: the story of my lives” by Pat Lally. Cover photo of him doing a cheeky side eye while dripping in the gold chains of civic office

Extremely nice! Bag of sweeties energy about this colourway

O aye right enough! That was a very Glasgow-centric post just focusing on the route nearest to me. Tbh I was caught out on the Brodick boat - starved myself in prep for a Cal-Mac feed then ended up with nothing but a Double Decker for my lunch, want to help others avoid the same fate!

If anyone is going to Arran it is very very important that you know that the route has 2 ferries, one the luxurious
spaceship-like Glen Sannox (Cal Mac) w/ delicious food, the other is a catamaran called Alfred (Pentland Ferries) which has NO FOOD AT ALL except a sad vending machine
kamack.bsky.social
One of the other holes is a 3D map of the island and the obstacles are wee Cal-Mac ferries in the “sea”. there’s also a full loop the loop!

We were only here for one full day and it was atrocious weather. I spent 15 mins in lashing rain on a deserted crazy golf course until I completed THIS:
The best crazy golf hole in Scotland, a beautiful shining red miniature version of the Forth Rail bridge. You have to tap the ball and it’ll go along tiny rails where the trains go. Took me about 100 gos to finally succeed but it was all worth it

Arran is so beautiful at this time of year:
View over Arran hills with wisps of cloud around the tops and white torrents of water clearly visible crashing down the sides; caused by it being pissing rain for 10 hrs yesterday Series of figures walking along a beautiful wooden bridge over a river, with mountains and streaks of light breaking through cloud. View of Goat Fell from Brodick with colourful seaweed on the beach in front Another view of GoatFell from Brodick, blue sea and cloudy skies

Kelvingrove Park c2006, bleary-eyed in the daylight, a mate tells me "people say 'I wish I'd lived in Hacienda-era Manchester' or, 'imagine being around in CBGB-era New York'... fuck that! We live in Optimo-era Glasgow!" He was right.

From disco to Slayer, a DJ set by Optimo’s JD Twitch made life feel full of wild possibility
By putting techno, punk, funk and more on an even footing, the Scottish DJ – who has died aged 57 – fearlessly united factions in underground music

I wrote something quite personal about what use trans history In These Times:

The summer has seen anti-trans campaigns across the UK and US, alongside a crisis in healthcare. But what use could trans history have in these time, beyond proving 'we have always been here'?
