Excellent, wide-ranging long thread on the state of the UK...
Thank you @tanjabueltmann.net

When I was a teenager there was a bus direct from my hometown in Germany to London - we had a British army base, and this direct bus connection was one of the benefits of that. One summer I went on that bus to go volunteer in an old people's home in Southend-on-Sea. I had just turned 18 and was... 🧵

It would be amazing to see a design commission for Powell in the tradition of Scottish tin tabernacles, the Watts Chapel and secular contemplative spaces where his etched(?) copper/metal panels could weather outdoors over time while also serving as printing plates 😊 ...

And while you are visiting @edinburghprints.bsky.social be sure to leave plenty of time check out Robert Powell's astonishing Hall of Hours installation with working clock and gorgeous copper ornaments.
A clock set with in a symmetrical, decorative, colourful structure along one wall of a room. The structure has copper ornamental plates and pendulum.

You are very welcome! 😊 I can imagine being able to drive again and regaining autonomy must be great.
Having a good Sunday, thanks: wind-blown walk and blether with a pal this morning and catching up with things this afternoon. Hope you are having a good day.

Queer and neurodivergent people are biological facts.

We are stable parts of the human genome.

We asked the EHRC whether they consulted any trans, intersex or LGBTQ+ groups before intervening in the 2024 Supreme Court case For Women Scotland v Scottish Ministers.

Their answer? They didn’t. 1/
Text about EHRC not directly contacting Transgender, Intersex, LGBTQ+ groups before November 2024 hearing. Describes regular engagement with such groups.

Shameful, the UK arresting people for wearing T-Shirts and holding signs.

Where are the people who scream for the right to Free Speech?

If you’re in Aberdeen and looking for somewhere quiet to work, the McBey Library at the art gallery is brand new, really beautiful and the staff told me it’s underused. Fast wifi and there are two cafes in the building (although you’re not allowed drinks in the library)

This is an important thread & piece about the negative impact of AI on the translation sector - sobering & illuminating #xl8
bcmerchant.bsky.social
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

A new museum/archive/warehouse in London with 'at least a thousand unlabelled items sitting on the shelves. There’s no way of finding out what they are'. Extraordinary!

It has been six years since the Gender Autonomy Act was passed in Iceland. In those six years, none of the usual fears that anti-trans advocates warn against have manifested - and trans people, non-binary people and intersex people have enjoyed increased rights and protections.

We're now at a point where MSPs are lodging complete and utter bollocks at Holyrood as part of the wider campaign against trans people. The report this MSP wants to welcome is complete pish, rooted in the so-called "LGB Alliance" *asking their own supporters* views. It represents nobody but them.
A motion by Conservative MSP Tess White heaping praise on a bullshit report by the misleadingly named "LGB Alliance" which claims to find, amongst other things, that LGB people don't like being included with trans people. A summary of the reports methodolgy which shows it just asked its own members.
