I am going to tell a story as small and close to myself as I can, before I go set luminarias outside. These lanterns, brown paper bags with sand and candles, are part of the recieved culture of New Mexico, the place where my family moved when I was 1.5 and have now lived again for nearly a decade.

Was feeling bad that I had not put as many gifts under the tree as in years past but now that everyone has wrapped and placed their items, I am reminded that both my boys have become thoughtful and generous gift-givers - one of the few things I give myself credit for as a parent

thoughts and prayers for my furnace, which is occasionally doing a weird thing that means it needs to be seen to (i.e. I am behind on yearly maintenance schedules due to renovations running behind) but it's 4:30 on xmas eve and my HVAC guy is on his way out of town
