While in Bowness-on-Windermere, Kelly was pointing out all the different kinds of birds over the weekend: gulls, jackdaws, crows, etc. The mountain girl knows her stuff.

Karl: “Wow… what’s that white bird all puffed up. Never seen anything like that.”

Kelly: “That’s a pigeon. It’s just white.”

Apparently, this white bird is a pigeon.

Today is the birthday of Harvey Kurtzman (Oct. 3, 1924-Feb. 21, 1993). He wrote, edited, & drew stories for Two-Fisted Tales & Frontline Combat for EC. The creator of the comic that became Mad magazine, he was editor from 1952-1956, & wrote Little Annie Fanny for Playboy from 1962-1988.

It reads:

"Dear Joel:

I think it is more difficult these days to define what makes a good citizen than it has ever been before. Certainly all any of us can do is follow our own conscience and retain faith in our democracy. Sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call "American Virtues" who lack this faith in our country.
