And, to everyone asking: THIS is the sort of thing AGU has the power to do, and could be doing to protect threatened academic depts from state governments and boards, like in Nebraska. AGU has real power to mobilize, so maybe next time it's not just faculty screaming into the void.

I knew the crowd at #AGU25 felt smaller this year but wow, that's a huge drop.
Attendance at US-based science conferences is bouncing around this year but generally down. #AGU25 has ~10k fewer this year! I explored these trends for @nature.com — including solutions to keep conferences local & productive:

@agu.org, I'm afraid that attendees need some clarity on how this ICE deployment is affecting the meeting. Many int'l colleagues and students are flying in and spending time in the city. Should they all switch to online? Will registration be refunded? How will they be protected?
