#SaveSpeech

US legislators are pushing harder to pass KOSA and repeal section 230.

Call your representatives ASAP and make your voice heard! Advocate for protecting section 230, and demand your reps oppose KOSA!
Bipartisan Push in Congress to Weaken Section 230, Expand Online Surveillance, and Increase Platform Liability
Calls for platform accountability came with few answers about who decides what speech is acceptable.

1. This is a very good sign that speaking out against KOSA is working! Dont assume it's dead though, continue calling your reps until further notice.

2. "Sammy's Law" is still in the draft stage but is worth keeping an eye on as imo i think trying to pass ANY kind of surveillance bill is bad

Word on the Hill is that House GOP leaders are moving on from the sweeping and controversial Kids Online Safety Act, or at least no longer prioritizing it.

That has opened the gates for narrower safety bills, such as "Sammy's Law," which I wrote about today: www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Analysis | ‘Sammy’s Law’ would help parents monitor kids online. It’s gaining steam.
The parents of a teen fentanyl poisoning victim are finding allies in Congress for a bill intended to save others from the same fate.

So, 5 slots for $100 USD each would put me WELL over what I need to pay for things in CAD. It would be a while (like a couple months) until I get to your spot, but I think these would be the last comms I’d have to take for a good little while I shave off my queue + otherwise get my shit in order 🫡

Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

it appears that @bsky.app have suspended the account of @jessiegender because a trans person saying "I wish ill on JK Rowling" is against the rules, so let me say with my loud cis voice that I too wish ill on all perpetrators of hate speech against trans people

reinstate Jessie, this is ridiculous

bluesky is taking feedback on the guidelines at this link below. Let them know these are not satisfactory

CONGRATS SOLDIER, we've hit 2 weeks of solid #SaveSpeech pressure! Youre doing a great job! Reward yourself!

And keep on calling/mailing!

stop-paypros.neocities.org
yellat.money

www.congress.gov/members/find...
SCREEN ACT:
-full age verification. (biometric scans, ID uploads, background checks)

-Deeply unsafe for personal and data privacy. Security/data breaches are rampant, and uploading so much sensitive data to every single we site is just asking for mass ID theft.

-id verification is much, much harder on small websites than larger ones, creating a chilling effect and stifling speech for anyone that isnt a massive corporation

-draw comparison to UK's OSA [online safety act] and the backlash it is receiving

KOSA:
-creates "duty of care,” meaning that tech companies and platform giants would be required to take steps to prevent potentially harmful encounters, such as posts about eating disorders and instances of online bullying, from impacting minors.

-who gets to decide what is or is not "unsafe for minors"? Especially under the current administration

-it will block access to important info minors could use to keep themselves safe or advocate for themselves. Ex: sex ed.

-the vague nature of the bill will almost certainly be used to target LGBT content under the guise of "protecting children"

Just a reminder and warning if some of you never got DMs like this:

It's a famous scam tactic to gather infos from you. Saddly those DMs comes from people you follow that got hacked.
Best is to report those.

I checked my Twitter fast and got like 20+ of those, they really want to hack me too.

If you are a canadian and use the internet even to the slightest degree to engage with other people, you need to do research into Bill S-209 to see how it could affect you.

Make sure your voice is heard and don't just assume other people will voice your concerns or do things for you. Be proactive.

It was only a matter of time, but Canada has joined the censorship bandwagon with Bill S-209.

I still refuse to believe this statement is true as Stripe has banned NSFW for basically their entire time operating, and this message seems specifically designed to push blame off of them as they're getting hammered with calls.

All the more reason to continue to call and continue to pressure them!

People, especially adult content creators, need to understand that payment processors are not something a "mob" can affect.

The NCOSE and Collective Shout are organizations with more than just 1000 members, they are organizations representing larger demographic issues.
