Thanks for the great compilation. Our new @empoci.bsky.social policy brief shares insights into how such phase-out targets influence corporate decision making in the automotive industry: it shows how these targets actually help in the global innovation race: www.sussex.ac.uk/webteam/gate...

Consistent phase-out policies actually help European carmakers, according to our new policy brief! 📚

It argues that while the transition to electric vehicles is disruptive, it is also inevitable. In the long run, delays will only hurt the European automotive industry.

When do incumbents adopt radical net-zero technologies? In our new paper, @alinescherrer.bsky.social and I are analysing differences in strategy trajectories of European truck manufacturers towards alternative vehicle technologies, and their determinants. Full paper here: doi.org/10.1016/j.te...

New method for mapping actors in (UK) policy consultations: helps to track how policy-subsystems are merging due to unfolding multi-system transitions (e.g. to e-mobility) or who participates and how this changes over time (policy, business, society, academia): www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Figure shows number and share of actors involved in energy-mobility transitions consultations in the UK (2008-2021). Figure shows changes in the actor types in the emergence and acceleration phase of UK energy-mobility transitions.

Advancing net-zero transitions requires addressing multiple challenges and navigating the "dual politics" of acceleration: political conflict on the DECLINE of old industries and the EXPANSION of the new system. Eight challenges in the acceleration phase of net-zero transitions, ranging from whole system change to international dynamics. Provides description, examples and policy implications.

Despite many negative headlines, the global EV sales grew by around a third last year. The IEA expects electric sales to increase by more than a fifth in 2024.

In Europe, T&E expects EV sales to resume growth - as carmakers race to meet EU CO2 targets next year - reaching 24% market share in 2025.

What are the most frequented flight routes in Europe?

A whopping 43 flights between London and Amsterdam departed every day last year, making it the second-busiest route in Europe despite a direct 4-hour train alternative.

It’s time to rethink how we travel in Europe.

Low-carbon innovations are crucial for net-zero, yet not without (unintended) negative consequences.

In my latest publication, I develop a typology of such negative consequences and put forward a research agenda!

As we are entering the #acceleration phase of net-zero transitions, new challenges are emerging: based on the electrification of transport in Germany and California, we introduce 3 additional challenge types and draw attention to the dual politics of acceleration. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
Table 1 published in Rogge and Goedeking (2024) showing an overview of an extended list of different challenge types in the acceleration phase of net-zero transitions: consisting of whole systems change, multi-system interactions, decline and resistance, expansion and contestation, consumers and social practises, justice, international dynamics, and governance.
