This is a piece I wrote about deer, mid-century ceramics and death.

Oh no, imagine if someone picked this out for the whole family to watch and it ended up being the Haneke film instead.
Poster for the likely very wholesome film TIME OF THE WOLF (2002) starring Burt Reynolds and Jason Priestley. They feature on the poster alongside some white kid and a precocious wolf. The font is in PAPYRUS!

TIL: Disney made a special poster for the 1969 re-release of FANTASIA aimed squarely at stoners + hippies and THAT theatrical run is how the movie first turned a profit.

This ties into a broader issue that’s always infuriated me: the pervasive idea that writing the self is inferior or amateurish. It’s not ‘trauma theory’ that’s self-indulgent, it’s the critics who stick their fingers in their ears like a child and tell you to shut up about it.
Friday essay: trauma memoirs can help us understand the unthinkable. They can also be art
Sad Tiger and Trauma Plot are two stunning memoirs by rape survivors who immerse themselves in art and literature. They both transcend ‘art as therapy’.

No! A jaffle must be a bit burnt, with rock-hard edges. I'm sure it's lovely, but I don't want porridge in a jaffle. I don't want a jaffle at all. Must be hotter than molten lava in there.
Also — just learned what a spurtle is. They look exactly as you'd expect.

I only found out a few days ago that Adèle Haenel is a member of the flotilla. Her ship broke down last week and she's safe. I realise everyone involved is just as important, but this is an example of genuine celebrity activism. Creative artists can do so much more than sign a fucking petition.

In an email sent by the Swedish foreign ministry to people close to Thunberg, and seen by the Guardian, an official who has visited the activist in prison said she claimed she was detained in a cell infested with bedbugs, with too little food and water.

Self-portrait created by Brenda Marshall c.1957 in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital where she was compelled to live.
Her body of surviving work combines the abstract & fantastical with the real to explore distressing family relationships which she wrote about on the backs of her paintings
Painting of a white woman with cropped black hair and pale blue green eyes standing in a park, wearing a black boat neck top and an ambiguous facial express, behind her, leafless winter trees, a long path receding into the distance and the small shadowy figures of someone walking a dog
