My best guess is still that we will get through to the other side with our democracy intact. The question for university leaders is whether they want to live with the shame of having been on the wrong side of history.

We give thanks for the life of Dr. Jane Goodall, lover and protector of Creation.
On the left is a picture of Jane Goodall from Amy Martin Photography. She is an elderly white woman with a slight smile. The text reads: "The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves," attributed to Dame Jane Goodall, born 1934 and died 2025.

New: Today, FCNL's @bridgetmoixfcnl.bsky.social joined 100+ faith leaders speaking out against the growing normalization of violence & the rise of authoritarian threats to democratic freedoms in the U.S. ⬇️

Thanks. I don't doubt *anything* you're saying about the signage & the atmosphere there. But an ELCA church in Renton WA is posting an educational series of that name/on those dates on FB. Definitely anti Xian Nationalism. So these folks are allies (& maybe endangering themselves).

I don't know where this church is, but one need not assume that they are promoting Xian Nationalism. They could well be studying it over that period of time, as it is manifesting now, so their members are well informed.

The second I saw this photo, I thought how wonderful it would be to have a ship with a figurehead inspired by this fierce bird!

Join us for our Friday faith sharing and Bible study today on my Facebook page at 3 PM ET, when we will discuss this Sunday's readings, including the first reading, from the Book of Amos: "Hear this, you who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land!"

Would love to read more about this, Governor Evers, but the link is still broken as of 7:24 CST . . .

I mentioned my surprise about this to the author of the study guide. He suggested that leaders could find appropriate images to use (spread out on a table, say, for people to look at) for the very first lesson. I said using pics of actual nature, as long as we still have it, would be good. Sigh.

THANK YOU—it made me crazy when I saw that!

CNN is reporting that Yeonsoo Go has now been taken from New York to the Richwood Correctional Center in Monroe, Louisiana. ⚓️

According to my friend and divinity school classmate Bishop Matthew Heyd of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, Yeonsoo Go, daughter of an Episcopal priest, is being detained at a facility with no beds or showers or hot food. ⚓️
Screenshot of a public Facebook post by Clara Mun (wife of Bishop Suffragan Allen Shin of the Episcopal Diocese of New York):

“Please pray for YeonSoo Go, daughter of Rev. Kyrie Kim, Episcopal priest in The Episcopal Diocese of New York!
YeonSoo is student at Purdue university and was detained by ICE after her visa interview at federal immigration court.
This is wrong!

The article says “multiple synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, including those in New England, the greater Milwaukee area, southwest California, and southwest Texas” signed on.

Joanna Macy is dying. I've learned how to be better as a human being because of her. Grateful to her family and community for allowing those of us who do not know her personally to share our feelings about her. I come back to her 5 vows all of the time: alokavihara.org/wp-content/u... - Thank Joanna

There are no red states, no blue states, only purple, from Idaho fuchsia to Vermont violet. And in every state there are children, non-citizens, and prisoners who can't vote. In every state where one candidate won, a bunch of people voted for the other candidate. And so forth.

Here’s hoping your local 4th of July celebration looked like this one.

Leave it to Vermonters — who live in a state that is dreary & cold most of the year — to turn up the brightness with kindness, & turn up the heat by speaking truth to power.
