TODAY is the deadline to submit public comment on Trump’s proposal to rescind the Roadless Rule, which would expose 45 million acres of national forest to permanent roads and their attendant environmental ills. Register your disapproval here:

We have an awesome new colleague in @cires.colorado.edu + @cugeography.bsky.social, @emconsidine.bsky.social! She uses machine learning, causal inference, + biostatistics to study environmental health, including air quality + extreme heat. Learn more about her work here: ellenconsidine.github.io

🚨 NEW: Climate change is already causing 30,000 deaths per year - a global annual economic loss of $100-350B USD - but the true damage is probably 10x higher. Out TODAY in Nature Climate Change: the first systematic look at the science of "health impact attribution" 🔓 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
"Health losses attributed to anthropogenic climate change," a brief communication in the journal Nature Climate Change. There's a map showing regions of the world, and pie charts of relevant studies as they apply to different health impacts like "heat-related deaths" and "maternal and child health"

i'm a trans professor and this is our first week of classes for the fall- my big joy this week is that i'm back in the classroom teaching genetics to 35 students and a senior/grad course to another 10, and all of them are just wonderful and engaged ❤️

i have spent a good chunk of the past year documenting trans rights protests around the country for @assignedmedia.org

and in spite of the current news cycle it's important to see who trans folk truly are:

loving, nonviolent, and resilient

fellow trans folk: QRT & share your moments of trans joy
Two trans femmes stand in the plaza, one of which unravels a trans pride flag she was wearing as a cape. A group of yellow-vested folk, most likely volunteers for Indivisible, pepper the background. Three figures stand in front of a snowy plaza in Lansing Michigan, with one of them making bunny ears in front of someone with a sign reading SOMEONE I LOVE IS TRANS AND I WILL FIGHT FOR THEM. A group of Lambda Legal volunteers staff a table in DC while a trans pride flag flies high in the background.

I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.

If you work on climate change and health, but are striking out in the current funding landscape, this might be the job for you. We're looking for someone who can do a lot of work in one year to launch something big. If you think that's you, take a look at our lab website, and then drop me an email:

We may have a one-year postdoctoral position opening! We're looking for someone with experience in attribution science OR very strong skills in climate epidemiology to come help us launch a Global Burden of Climate Change Study. Remote possible for the right person; aim to raise $ for a second year.

Judaism: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole Torah; the rest is commentary.” To claim condemning wrongdoing is “anti-Semitic” is to claim Judaism would remain mute at & allow for horrific violence against others. I cannot imagine a more anti-Semitic idea than that.

This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about the Caleb Scholars program. We give students funds to return home to learn from elders as they go to school, and we find undergrads though professional/PhD programs bc I know how hard it was to return home during grad school.
