My turn on the socials!
This week our librarians are sharing their hobbies, with some book suggestions from our displays if you want to have a go.

Here is Katie: “ At the weekend I enjoy sewing and trying to make my own clothes. Sometimes you’ll see me wandering around the library shelving journals in a dress I made.”

Work has once again let me be in charge of the display...
We have just launched our New Year, New Hobby display! We are encouraging you to try something new in 2026 and pick up a new hobby. Watch this space as we delve into the hobbies within the libraries over this month...

I had great fun manning the library stand at our Fresher's Fair this week!
We've really enjoyed attending all the Freshers Fairs this week. Here are a few more photographic highlights from the University Library stand - thanks to the Student's Union for hosting us!!

So proud to have been able to present a poster at the Mercian Collaboration conference yesterday! Since January I've been working on building Wolverhampton's zine collection and yesterday I was able to show off all that work and lessons. #Mercian25

Spotted! Nat Reeve, author of Nettleblack and Earlyfate, stopped by the library to check out his books on our Pride display! Reeve is visiting the university for the Neo-Victorian Crime Fiction conference to discuss his books, which have a cast of queer characters solving crimes in a Victorian town.

Last year, I was able to attend the CILIP Conference thanks to a bursary by @ukeig.bsky.social, in exchange for a write up about the event. I'm really excited to share my report about CILIP and again express my gratitude to UKeiG for enabling me to attend!

Work trusted me to coordinate our pride display this June. With all the bad news for the queer community out there at the moment, I chose to focus our display on Queer Joy and Visibility: We've always been here and we're going to be happy being out regardless of what you're trying to do to us 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
🎊🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🎉It's PRIDE!🎊🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🎉

We've just put up our Pride display at Harrison Library, where we have pulled out books from our collection which demonstrate Queer Joy and Visibility! #PrideMonth2025

Bring this back for trans day of visibility to read about some trans joy!
Gender Euphoria edited by Laura Kate Dale records stories of joy from trans people, of those who are contributing to social change by living their lives as they wish. How better to honour the legacy of LGBT+ activists than continuing the fight for equality and fairness among the community.

Continuing to contribute to this blog by writing about all the prize-winning history books we have on display! Very excited to be drawing on my passion for history at work (and hoping to get my hands on Devil-land once the display comes down...)
Our latest #ExploringLibraryResources blog post is about the Wolfson History Prize and some of the women who have won or been shortlisted for this highly prestigious prize in the past few years and their books that we have on display at the University Libraries #WomensHistoryMonth

Cambridge is trying to criminalise protest on campus.

But not all protests. Only protests related to *one specific viewpoint* they consider inconvenient.

They claim to do this in the name of "scholars of the university." Sign our open letter if you weren't consulted

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.
