saw this circulating on Instagram the other day and I can’t stop thinking about it. “Who cares anymore what particular knot they used in the binding?” is such a perfectly expressed repudiation of the “economic anxiety” framing

Trump's top border goon whined that Chicagoans are so educated about their rights that it's messing with ICE's raids. Today in @thenation.com, organizer Raeghn Draper tells us how the city is resisting—and how you can too. A great reminder—we're NOT helpless! www.thenation.com/article/acti...
Think There’s Nothing You Can Do to Stop ICE? Think Again.
Chicago’s years of organizing against immigration raids are a blueprint for real resistance to Trump’s attacks—as even his top goons acknowledge.

It would be great to see just one Democratic Senator do something about this.
NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.

Just a truly gutting piece from @christianitytoday.com about when ICE agents came to a church to arrest an immigrant last week.

The whole thing is worth reading, but this section asks the big question: why was it necessary to arrest him there? www.christianitytoday.com/2025/01/shou...

"When you are selecting not only for loyalty, but defining that loyalty to mean affirming morally odious values and factually absurd premises, you are reducing your hiring pool to the shallowest part," Jonathan Chait writes:
Is There Anything Trump Won't Blame on D.E.I.?
The president is promising a return to meritocracy—while staffing his government with underqualified loyalists.

How long will they mouth haughty speeches,

go on boasting, all these evildoers?

They crush your people, LORD

torment your very own.

They kill the widow and alien;

the orphan they murder.
I mean yes, there is such a concept in Christianity. It appears quite notably in the letters of Paul, for instance, where it’s a concept he *relentlessly* argues against, and in the Gospel where it’s a concept Jesus very much repeatedly scorns. So it is technically in there!
