This isn’t really the point but I’ve just realized that I’ve been reading it as “artos” all this time and…I’m assuming it’s not actually Greek 😳

"The fact that the asphyxiation of British higher education does not instantly count as a national scandal underlines the extent to which the austerity mindset continues to constrain our political imagination" - @robbhawkes.bsky.social & Scott Ferguson's piece is excellent.

As more of my valued colleagues face the threat of redundancy, here’s a quick reminder that it takes years and years of public investment to train an academic. Cutting someone with this wealth of experience loose isn’t “saving” anything. It is a massive waste of our collective resources.
UK Universities in Crisis? Time to Transform Higher Ed Finance
by Rob Hawkes and Scott Ferguson Universities in the UK are in crisis. Job cuts in the sector are reaching ‘cataclysmic’ levels, with an estimated 10,000 already lost and many more at risk. Just da…

But otherwise he'd only eat meaty sticks.
He had sausages for lunch,
Snacked on pepperoni a bunch,
And every so often he'd eat a mix."

“Nigel Farage is wrong in principle, his approach is racist, and we oppose it”

“Nigel Farage is right on immigration, but he doesn’t have the skill or experience to deliver his plans”

At some point, the government has to pick *one* of these narratives, instead of veering wildly between the two.

And may I add: Please, @microsoft.com, please make Word stop changing fonts and sizes just because I’m starting a new ¶.

to be more in-depth and nuanced by virtue of parenthetical clauses, footnotes, etc. that just don’t translate well in a spoken format.
The problem is treating this as an either/or situation rather than a “yes, and” situation, where two different formats are used to complement each other.

Dyslexic academic here 👋
I will never be able to read at the speed I can ingest information in a video format (or retain it as well - unless I handwrite notes) and skimming is just something I can’t do. For me, the difference is the way information is transmitted - writing provides the space…

If Labour continues down this ugly, punitive, xenophobic path they will lose my vote. Stop chasing Reform!

Crazy to think it was a Labour government that made the UK a place I wanted to migrate to, to begin with.

“Ministers are keen for migrants to prove they’ve integrated in the UK if they want settlement status. That includes…conditions such as making National Insurance contributions, not taking any benefits payments…”
This is ALREADY the case. 10 yrs for ILR - why!? Other than hostility to immigrants.
Shabana Mahmood to demand migrants earn right to settled status
New tests will include learning English to a high standard, paying National Insurance and not claiming benefits.

Only an administration intent on committing war crimes in the present and future would stoop to calling Wounded Knee a "battle" rather than what it truly was: a massacre of over 250 Lakotas, mainly women, children, and the elderly. 1/

Oi biblical scholars:

Stop saying “the” Old Testament without specifying which one you mean. Decenter the Protestant collection as the unspoken norm (especially if you’re referring to a collection of texts that predates the Reformation).

‘K thanks.

Looking again I withdraw my comment - a few people on here had said that was the origin, and the style of embroidery, along with the shape of the drape, do seem to suggest that's right. But I just noticed the menorah is only 5 branches. I have no idea if that makes any sense in a Bukharan context.
