Oddly, this article did not mention artificial intelligence at all--although one suspects that Harvard students must be using it to do their assignments.

It's notable after all the voices loudly saying Trump should not be prosecuted for his crimes because he would target his political enemies, that there's no argument that Trump should not target political opponents because he will face any consequences. No one thinks he will face consequences.

Virginia State Senate Dems just brought down fire and fury regarding the “Compact,” notifying the President and Rector that UVA would lose ALL STATE APPROPRIATIONS if it signs and cedes the University to “federal political control.” Notably, their letter directly restates points made here by @siva.

The “compact” for higher ed is an unserious document written by unserious people from a position of spectacular ignorance. No one should take it seriously. Sadly, my bosses are taking it seriously.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

For those of you who (wisely) haven’t been on Twitter lately and may not know, I recently had an article come out in the EHR on early medieval British plague and its broader historiographical implications. Just message me if you don’t have access and need a pdf!

Gasoline sells at a DEEPLY subsidized rate of 12.3¢ per gallon in Venezuela, but costs more than $4 per gallon in Trinidad which is just six miles away from the coast of Venezuela. There’s a much greater chance that Trump murdered people bootlegging gas than drugs.

Venezuela: The price of octane-95 gasoline is 0.84 Venezuelan Bolivar per liter. For comparison, the average price of gasoline in the world for this period is 30.93 Venezuelan Bolivar. The chart below shows the price of gasoline in the country relative to other countries.
Use the drop menu to see the prices in gallons. On the graph, the prices for the countries indicated with a * are updated on a weekly basis. The prices for the other countries are updated on a monthly basis because these countries have regulated fuel markets and prices do not change frequently.
The subsidized price of 0.1 USD on the chart is for the first 120 liters a month only for people with a valid Fatherland Card. Purchases above 120 liters per month are charged at 0.50 USD per liter. Also, the price listed on this page is the official gasoline price. However, during times of fuel shortages in Venezuela, there is a black market for fuel with prices that can exceed substantially the average international price levels.

A healthy democracy, where the leader and his followers spent a week threatening the destruction of the UN because the president fucked up an escalator briefly, and we all just moved on largely because the president was busy invading his own people’s territory in part because he got mad at a tv
